MISSIONS AT
FIRST UNITED METHODIST

Christian Outreach Project

COP is a youth work camp run by the Northern New Jersey conference. It is based out of Aldersgate Camp in Swartzwood during the end of June and beginning of July. It provides labor to repair homes of persons who cannot afford or cannot perform basic maintenance or need house or property repairs.

First United Methodist was the founding church for the Project. Our members have always been involved in the planning and work of this outreach ministry.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat works to build new, housing for persons who would otherwise be unable to afford to purchase their own house. Volunteers from churches in the county provide the labor, along with the prospective owner to build each house.

Several members of First United Methodist are on the Board of Trustees of Habitat. Also, our members volunteer their time during construction of Habitat houses.

Manna House

Manna House is a local "soup kitchen" located in the Newton Presbyterian Church. Volunteers from 24 sponsoring churches provide the workers to set-up and serve the hot, nutritious noon-time meals to the patrons on weekdays.

First United Methodist serves one day each month with a group of around 20 volunteers.

Interfaith Hospitality Network

One of the latest Missions to Sussex County, First United Methodist provides a place for homeless families to stay overnight for a week. Dinner, beds and breakfast are provided. Sites are provided by county churches on a rotating basis.

International Scholarship Fund

The church provides financial support for a person to attend seminary in their native country. Funds are used for tuition and school supplies by the recipient. We have educated persons for the ministry in Liberia, Singapore, the Phillipines, and Russia.

Funds are raised through the "Joyful Noise" offering and the International Dinner.
