LOVE AND CARE

February is designated Love and Care month here at First Church and I am pleased to still be a part of it. We quietlly do what we need to do and you as our church family can be a big part of us. Silent or noisy - we love you! Support us however you can.

We still provide meals, for some of our church family, at holiday time with gift cards for groceries so they can get their special likes. We get through the winter with some visits to nursing homes or private homes. It isn't always just winter time but whenever we can visit. Not as much as we wuld like but we try. If you have visited some of our shut-ins be sure to let us know. I know some of you do by my listening. I don't call that eavesdropping but I like what I hear. Keep praying for us! It is important. When there is a need in the church we try to help out if we can.

Coming up in March will be Love & Care's time to deliver daffodils to our shut-ins and that is a pleasant day or two. Holler if you can help with this. Everyone has been so wonerful when asked, but you don't have to wait for that. We'll put you to work and you will enjoy it!

Thank you for being so faithful to us and please continue to support us so we can help wherever needed. We love you!

What a super job was done this past Christmas with the Mitten Tree!!! Before the holidays we delivered to Salvation Army, nursing homes, and Ridgewood. You are all so appreciated.

We have been doing the flowers outside the church for the summer and with Glenda Saylor as the knowledgeable one it has been great. Hope she keeps this up for us 'cause I hardly know a flower from a weed!

Sincerely in God,
Gail Eaton
Love and Care Chairperson

From the Trustees

Now with winter upon us we look back at all the projects of 2004: the new boiler, the new sidewalk, the new ramp, the new wall, and the resurfaced parking lot. All this work amounted to $85,000. We DID NOT have to borrow from the bank, but we did use our own money from trust funds and we need to replace it. That is why we have distributed the pledge cards for Building/Boiler Fund so please pray about it and give whatever you can afford to give so that we can keep the church in tip top shape.

THANK YOU

Dear Ladies of First United Methodist Church,
Thank you for your gift of knitted mittens. We certainly will use them. I have already passed them out to the teachers.
We really appreciate your thoughtfulness. Thank you for thinking of our students.
Take care. Have a wonderful holiday season.
Sincerely, Connie, School Nurse

Dear Friends:
I just want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you for your donation this month of mittens, scarves and one pair of slippers.
Your donation was very much appreicated and truly a labor of love by all who made them. Your donation came at the perfect time, as we were able to distribute these items at the time we gave out the Christmas toys and Christmas food boxes.
Your church has been so faithful in giving here at the Salvation Army. It is through Christian love like this that we are able to continue to aid those who are less fortunate than othres.
Again, thank you for your support and for sharing with others in our community. God Bless
Sincerely, Kathleen Waddell, Major

A huge thank you to everyone who remembered our family with cards, thoughts, food and prayers during the past week. Everything was greatly appreciated.
Wayne and Chrys & Family

If you have a family member who is away at college or in the military and would like them to receive the monthly church newsletter, please notify the church office and provide the name and mailing address.

Also, remember that TAPES of the Sunday Worship Service are available...let Mary Long or the pastor know if they would be helpful to you.

In order to publish and mail the Messenger in a timely fashion, all articles and information needs to be submitted to the office by the 20th of each month. Short items can be submitted by phone but if your information is more than a couple lines, please submit it in writing so that it can be presented accurately. This office is often very busy so articles submitted after the deadline may not be published until the following month.

This church has many members who can not always attend every Sunday, for various reasons. The Messenger can be an effective form of communication within the church if information is submitted on time. Please help keep this line of communication open....Don Good

In Memory and Celebration

Our Christian Sympathy and Prayers to out to the family and friends of the following:

Ruth Ann Brazel who died January 5, 2005
Cyrus Wolfgong who died Januayr 19, 2005

Please call the church office:

When a member of your family is admitted to the hospital, so that visits can be made and the proper people notified. This is especially important since the "new" privacy laws have been put into effect. We would rather receive many calls about the same thing than to hear nothing at all...honest
When your group or class plans to have a meeting, so that it can be cleared and placed on the church calendar
When your home or business phone number changes, so that the church records can be kept up to date
When a baby is expected and when he/she "arrives" so that we can pray and also share the joy
When someone leaves home for college or the service or to establish a new residence so we can keep in touch
When there is a death of a family member or member of the church
When you have or know of a special prayer need and wish the pastor and the prayer group/chain to be contacted
