PRELUDE

Bringing In the Sheaves”

INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS AND VISITORS

Please stand to make your introductions.  An usher will bring the portable microphone to you, beginning with the east section, working left to right.  Please introduce your family and friends, using the microphone.

*THE PEACE

The peace of the Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Greet those around you with signs of peace and love.

*CALL TO WORSHIP

We gather here as the body of Christ, but where is the One who leads us? Is this Jesus walking ahead and closing the gaps between us and others? Has the Christ moved across lines we draw and engaged with those who sit in the distance?

Carry us with you, Jesus Christ. Take us wherever you go so that we may be the friends of those you love.

*HYMN

“Marching to Zion

*INVOCATION

Close the distances between your life and ours, Holy Spirit. Be known among us in this hour that we may see your vision for our life, we pray.

Come, Holy Spirit, come. Amen.

Come as the fire and burn

Come as the wind and cleanse

Come as the light and reveal

Convict, convert, consecrate

Until we are wholly thine.

Ushers collect the “Ritual Friendship Pads” at this time

“Where Children Belong”

This, this is where children belong, welcomed as part of the worshipping throng.  Water, God’s Word, bread and cup, prayer, and song:  This is where children belong.

RESPONSIVE PSALM

Based on Psalm 66:1-12

Make a joyful noise all the earth!

Sing the glory of God's name!

Say to our God, "How glorious is your name."

All the earth worships you and sings your praises.

Come and see what God has done:

awesome are God's deeds among us.

God turns the sea into dry land

and we pass through the rivers on foot.

We rejoice in God, who rules the earth forever

for God keeps watch on all the nations.

Bless our God, all the peoples:

let the sound be heard for the One who gives us life.

For God has tested us and tried us

and we have gone through fire and water.

Yet God has brought us out into a spacious place.

Thanks be to God.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Let us pray:

     Silent Prayer

     Pastoral Prayer

With people of old, we bring you our thanks, O God. Where would we be if we did not know you and you did not hold us secure? We bring you thanks for grace unearned and kindness undeserved. We thank you for insights received when life is hard and comfort when there is no end in sight.

We honor your gift of Jesus Christ who delights our lives with hard-won faith and human companionship. Thanks be to you, O God. Amen.

     Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

*HYMN

“It is Well with My Soul”

#377 UMH

*GOSPEL READING                                                                                              Luke 17:11-19

On his journey to Jerusalem Jesus passed along the borders of Samaria and Galilee. As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him. Keeping their distance, they raised their voices and said, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" When he saw them, he responded, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." On their way there they were cured. One of them, realizing that he had been cured, came back praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself on his face at the feet of Jesus and spoke his praises. This man was a Samaritan. Jesus took the occasion to say, "Were not all ten made whole? Where are the other nine? Was there no one to return and give thanks to God except this foreigner?" He said to the man, "Stand up and go your way; your faith has been your salvation."

This is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God!

          Everyone can help!

         Sunday, October 14th

Have you ever been hungry and cold with no way to get food to eat or blankets to keep you warm?  Many people all over the world and even here in Fort Dodge face these problems.

You can help these people.  I can help.  Everyone can help.  Sunday, October 14th is CROP WALK day.  CROP WALK gives us two ways to help poor people eat and keep warm.  We can be walkers, we can pledge money for the walkers, or we can do both.

Your Missions Committee is going to sponsor a contest, a competition between our church's adults and our youths, age 1-18.  The competition will be for the most number of walkers and for the most amount of money obtained in pledges.

If you want to be either a walker or a donator, please see me (Lee Berryhill), or Jennifer Peterson, or Audra McKinney for a walker's form or to make a pledge of money.

On October 14th we will find out whether the adults or the youths of our church can produce the most walkers and get pledges for the most money.

I'll see you on Sunday, October 14th at Reynolds Park at 1:00 P.M.

Lee Berryhill,  CROP WALK Chairperson

Nothin’ to do in Dodge?

Come check out “Friday Night Lights”

7:00 – 12:00 PM

At the Shalom Center

corner of 5th Ave and 12th Street (next to Hawkeye Theatre)

We want to provide a safe, Christian-based opportunity for FD Youth (7th-12th Grade)

We are going to do a “trial run” for six weeks on Friday nights

October 5, 12, 19, 26, November 2 & 9

This is primarily for 9th - 12th graders at this time, but knowing the great need for all youth in Fort Dodge, 7th-8th graders are welcome from 7-10 PM.

We will provide an age appropriate movie upstairs, and a game room in the basement (ping-pong, foosball, air hockey, board games etc.), with snacks and punch/water/juice available.

We promise to provide a minimum of six adult chaperones each night, but are planning for 8-10 each week as needed.
