In Heart” |

The
prelude is a time of centering – of transition from “getting here” to “being
here”. Please take the time to quiet
your spirit. Be aware of being with
others. Feel the spirit of God in the
community.

WELCOME Please take a moment
and fill out the “Ritual of Friendship” pads at this time. Please list all family members attending
today, your address and phone numbers, and then pass the books back through the
pews after everyone has signed, so you may greet and know those sitting with
you.
INTRODUCTION
OF GUESTS AND VISITORS
Please stand to make
your introductions. An usher will bring
the portable microphone to you, beginning with the east section, working left
to right. Please introduce your family
and friends, using the microphone.
*CALL TO WORSHIP
In exile
the Israelites admitted their grief, wept, mourned, and cried out in anguish.
God
heard their cry, paid heed to their pain, and reached out to gather them close,
to give comfort to them in their distress.
Let us come to God with honesty, trusting that though we may be in
the darkness of despair, God hears and receives us as we speak our truth, and,
in love, transforms us.

*INVOCATION
Caring God, it is with confidence in your unchanging compassion
and mercy that we dare to come before you as we are. We acknowledge that as we
approach you in this time of worship, we are people of sorrow as well as of
joy, people of failure as well as of success. We ask you to receive this
offering as an act of our praise and trust in you. Build us up in faith and
help us be completely open, giving you access to those dark, sinful, and
hurting places in our lives. By the power of your Holy Spirit working within
us, save and redeem us, we pray.
*THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, Who art
in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth
as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver
us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever. Amen
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
God comes to us in the nighttime of our sin with assurance of
forgiveness. For Christ is light, and we who have faced and confessed our
darkness and who sincerely desire to align our lives with the light, need no
longer have fear. Thanks be to God who has provided
our deliverance. Praise
be to God!

sat down and wept,

we had hung up our harps,

how could we sing a hymn of God
to
entertain the unfaithful.
"May we never forget you, O God."
may
I never again play or sing.
May I never forget you,
but
think of you always as my greatest joy!
"May we never forget you, O God."

And also with you.
Let us pray:

“Teach us, good Lord, to serve you as your
deserve; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the
wounds; to toil and not to seek for rest; to labor and not to ask for any
reward; except that of knowing that we do your will; through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen.”

|
Luke
16: 1931 Luke 17 5 |
The
apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" 6 And the Lord said, "If you had
faith as a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this sycamore tree, 'Be
rooted up, and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. 7 "Will
any one of you, who has a slave plowing or keeping sheep, say to him when he
has come in from the field, 'Come at once and sit down at table'? 8 Will he not rather say to him,
'Prepare supper for me, and gird yourself and serve me, till I eat and drink;
and afterward you shall eat and drink'? 9 Does he thank the
servant because he did what was commanded?
10 So
you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy
slaves; we have only done what was our duty.'"
This
is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God!

A SERVICE OF HOLY
COMMUNION
Christ our Lord
invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and
seek to live in peace with one another.
Merciful God, we
confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken
your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors,
and we have not heard the cry of the needy.
Forgive us, we pray. Free us for
joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Hear the good news:
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward
us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are
forgiven.
In the name of Jesus
Christ, you are forgiven!
Let us offer one
another signs of reconciliation and love.
Come to this sacred
table, not because you must, but because you may; come to testify not that you
are righteous, but that you sincerely love our lord Jesus Christ, and desire to
be his true disciples; come not because you are strong, but because you are
weak; not because you have any claim on the grace of God, but stand in constant
need of his mercy and help; come to seek the presence and Spirit of Christ.
Prayer of Blessing
Pour out your Holy
Spirit on us gathered here and on these gifts of bread and wine. Make them be for us the body and blood of
Christ that we may be for the world the Body of Christ redeemed by his
blood. By your spirit make us one with
Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the
world, until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly
banquet. Through your Son Jesus Christ,
and the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty
Father, now and for ever. Amen.
The
Bread and the Cup
The Prayer of Thanksgiving
Bountiful God, we
give you thanks that you have refreshed us at your table by granting us the
presence of Christ. Strengthen our
faith, increase our love for one another, and send us into the world in courage
and peace, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Have you ever been hungry and cold with no way to get food to eat or
blankets to keep you warm? Many people all over the world and even here in
You can help these
people. I can help. Everyone can help. Sunday, October 14th
is CROP WALK day. CROP WALK gives us two ways to help poor people eat and
keep warm. We can be walkers, we can pledge money for the walkers, or we
can do both.
Your
Missions Committee is going to sponsor a contest, a competition between
our church's adults and our youths, age 1-18. The competition will be for
the most number of walkers and for the most amount of money obtained in
pledges.
If you want to be
either a walker or a donator, please see me (Lee Berryhill), or Jennifer
Peterson, or Audra McKinney for a walker's form or to make a pledge of
money.
On October 14th we will
find out whether the adults or the youths of our church can produce the most
walkers and get pledges for the most money.
I'll see you on Sunday, October 14th at
