Our Music Ministry
has a strong tradition of both vocal and instrumental accomplishment. We have many performances during worship services, and many special events each year where local and regional musicians and vocalists share their gifts. See the special music ministry page for more details.
The
Youth Ministry page
tells about the various activities and special events planned. There is a Youth Sunday each year in September featuring youth participation in the worship services, including special benefit fund raisers, in addition to other fund raisers done throughout the year. The
Aldersgate camp is a focus for Youth outdoor activities.
The Family Ministry
is an important part of First United.
We seek to provide support and encouragement
to families in the church. Mothers of infants to youth
age are invited to monthly lunches or suppers out. Throughout the year parenting and family
series and events are planned.
Please
contact the church office for more information about short-term classes and special events for families.
College and Young Adults:
Come be a part of a growing ministry here at First UMC. The College and Young Adult ministry is for those
in college up to about 35 years of age. We are a great mixture of singles and couples looking for folks who want to enjoy Christian fellowship. We have a Sunday School class that meets
each week, and also other activities
throughout the year for fellowship and fun. Due to the range of participants in our ministry, some activities are for
families, some are for couples, and some are just for the adults.
What About the Children?
Let the Children Come!
Our church loves children! There are activities and groups for all ages.
Sunday school meets each week
with classes for all ages. During each Sunday worship service, loving childcare is provided for our
infants through preschoolers through our paid and volunteer staff. Little Church is a learning option
for four-year-olds through second graders in the 11:00 am service led by caring volunteers to learn about
worship and a special time to learn more about the morning’s scripture.
On Wednesday nights there are choirs for children ages 4 through first grade (Carol Choir) and second
through fifth grades (Wesley Choir). This time is more than just singing as the children are involved
in games, crafts, learning about the church and projects that give to others.
Vacation Bible School is a wonderful way for church children and community children to gather
together to learn more about the Bible through stories, games, crafts, music and snacks.
Our fourth and fifth graders are invited to be a part of the FISH group. FISH stands for
First In Serving Him and includes monthly outings
for lunch and mission projects. Letters are sent each month to tell the children of the plans.
Other celebrations for children and their families are planned throughout the year, such as Easter
and Harvest celebrations. Summer Fun Outings (SumFun) are planned for children and families during the
summer months which encourage children to enjoy God’s creation and each other. New ideas for children
evolve all the time so watch the newsletters. Adults interested in planning for our children’s ministry
are invited to attend the Children’s Council meetings. Call the church office for details, 227-7430.
Senior Adult Ministries
The Senior Adult Ministry includes both the Triple L group and the Methodist Meanderings activities.
Triple L
- Living Longer and Liking it - is the group that meets monthly in the Social Hall for lunch, fellowship and speakers. A team of senior adults coordinate food and the programs.
Methodist Meanderings
are opportunities to travel together for fellowship, education, and spiritual growth. Included during the year are day trips, overnight, and weeklong excursions. Special events like a annual retreat to Aldersgate camp are also offered.
Contact the church Office for complete information on Senior Adult events and the current schedule.
Singles Ministry
The First United Methodist Church has an active
Singles Ministry. Singles participate in a range of service, study, and social activities. We welcome adult singles of all ages. See the
Singles Ministry page
for more details.

The United Methodist Women
Our United Methodist
Women's unit has general meetings
bimonthly; circles meet monthly.
|
The goals of the United Methodist Women correspond with our
church goals of Inreach and Outreach. As Inreach, we seek to help
each other grow spiritually, to provide opportunities for learning and
to support each other during difficult times. As Outreach, we try to
be the channels of God's love as
we respond to physical and spiritual needs in the world around us
through mission projects in our
own community and within our
Conference, and by
joining with
Methodist Women across the nation in providing funds for worldwide mission work.
In our church we have five
circles which are subgroups of the
local unit of United Methodist
Women. All women are encouraged to become part of our unit by
attending unit or circle meetings.
The unit meets bimonthly and circles meet monthly. For specific
times of meetings, watch newsletters and bulletins or call the
church office.
Circles are as follows:
Faith Circle
Variety Circle
Wesleyan Guild
Family Circle
Please
contact the church Office for more information.
|
The United Methodist Men
meet monthly in the Social Hall. Our local church is also active in the District United Methodist Men, which meets every other month in different churches in the Frankfort District.
Please
contact the church Office for more information.

Stephen Ministry

We have been a Stephen
Ministry congregation since 1994.
Currently we have an active team of
Stephen Ministers who
can offer one-to-one care and support to persons in need. Additional
persons are needed to prepare for
this ministry, however.
Members of the leadership
team that carries teaching, managing and supporting responsibilities
can be contacted through the
church office.
Please let us know if
a person you know and love
may need the services of a caring
Stephen Minister.
The Stephen Ministers meet regularly in
the Todd House for devotional, snacks, and supervision.
