History of First Church

Small Groups

One of the best ways to grow spiritually and to find your place in our church is to join one of our small groups. Come to one of our Adult Growth Groups on Wednesday evening or a weekday Bible study!

Disciple Bible Study has been offered to our congregation for over ten years. This series is an intentional Bible study with daily readings and weekly group meetings. Disciple I gives an overview of the entire Bible in thirty-four weeks. It is a pre-requisite for Disciple II, a thirty-two week series on Genesis/Exodus and Luke/Acts, and Disciple III, a thirty-two week focus on the Prophets and Paul's letters. Each session includes video segments and discussions.

Please contact the church Office for the latest schedule.

Outreach Opportunities

One of our main responsibilities as a church and individual Christians is to reach out to others. Our church is involved in outreach both by monetary support and active ministry in the community as well as the world. Here in the community we support the
  • Kings Center,
  • the Soup Kitchen,
  • the Food Pantry,
  • the Simon House,
  • the Sunshine Center,
  • Resource Office for Social Ministries,
  • and KSU Wesley Foundation
Each year as a church we sponsor the Ruth Spurrier Children's Benefit. Appalachian Service Project and Volunteers In Mission have also benefited from our gifts of money and time in local and international projects.

Each of the past several years has seen a education, construction, or relief mission from our church to Honduras in Central America. Please contact the church Office for more information about joining a mission team.
