United Methodist Women
Each United Methodist Church is encouraged to have an organized unit of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ. We are to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
French
Asylum Church has been fortunate to have a United Methodist Women’s Unit for
many years. For several years, we have
committed funds to the general budget of our church four times a year. At the present time we have 23 members. Any woman in the church is welcome to become
a part of United Methodist Women, this also includes teenagers.
Our
group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. We do not meet in January or February. In November we meet the Saturday before
Thanksgiving to make mints for our annual Missionary Tea and wreaths for our church
for the Advent season. In December, we
meet the first Sunday at 2:00 p.m. for our Missionary Tea. Our tea has grown to be a wonderful
experience for the churches of the cluster.
The different churches provide songs, stories, thoughts, and prayers of
the Christmas season. Punch is served
with homemade treats and an offering is taken. The money we collect is used for
a mission project. After the tea, the
women make care packages for nursing home residents and others in the
community.
Our
group helps with meals for special occasions at French Azilum, pies for a
family reunion in the summer and dinners for people in the community who have
lost loved ones.
We
try to have informative and thought provoking programs at each of our
meetings. Please feel free to become a
part of our group. It will be fun and rewarding.
