I Was Glad When They Said unto Me, Let Us Go into the House of the Lord
Psalm 122: 1

The Forsyth United Methodist Church began as a dream of a small Bible Study group in 1978.  The dream became a reality in 1979 with the church being chartered with 48 members.  No stopping these people of spirit!   To help finance much of the church building, its altar furnishings, railing and light fixtures, its members built them.  On July 1, 1980, only one year from chartering, 200 people gathered for the Service of Consecration.  They didn’t stop there!  In 1982 they added Sunday School rooms, a Fellowship Hall and kitchen; 1987 brought the purchase of the parsonage and an organ.  As the church entered the 21st century, continued dreams were brought into reality.   A larger sanctuary, more Sunday school rooms, a sound and choir room, a library, more offices, meeting areas, a larger nursery, a foyer with a comfortable seating area are now available to all members.

A large memorial stained glass window looks over a garden meditation area, as well as the stained glass windows greeting church family as they enter the sanctuary.  The dreams and improvements have continued with a new and larger nursery and extended Sunday school area.

Many Habitat Groups actually live at the church while working on homes in the area.  The Family Life Center has been opened for use to many community functions as part of the Community Outreach program. With showers and a new larger improved kitchen, it is accessible to church family and community groups alike. It is used by a Cub and Scout Troop, plus with a local school for troubled girls.  A Mission group that gets out their hammers and nails to help community people as well as making one to two trips a year building homes in Mexico, a non-denomination grief support group are just samplings of the Outreach programs which is continually growing.

As Forsyth United Methodist Church grows, so grows their spiritual life living the church’s Mission Statement:

To be Christ-like individually and as a body; going beyond our walls offering Christ to others.
