The Pastor's Letter
Dear Members and Friends,
Isn't it amazing to see how quickly things change in the world around us? The seasons change, holidays come and go, the children grow up and technology transforms the way we live. Our lives change too; we can be "on top of the world" one moment and struggling to stay afloat the next. But isn't it good to know that some things NEVER change? Isaiah 40:8, for example, tells us, "The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever." And Hebrews 13:8 promises, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
Apart from the grace of God in Christ, you and I would be left to drift like a ship without a rudder, with no way to reach our destination. But thank God, His grace in Christ is available to everyone! God's promises, God's standards and God's love can be the anchor to hold us fast when the storm would threaten to sweep us away. And more than that, when we are willing to walk with the Lord, He can give our lives direction and fill us with joy!
Consider, for example, the account in the book of Acts which tells us how God's love in Jesus Christ called Saul of Tarsus from his terrorist-campaign against the Church, and transformed him into Paul, an apostle of Christ's love. Later, that same love redeemed Augustine from a life of sin to become one of the greatest leaders in the early Church. And centuries later, God's love transformed John Newton, the drunkard and slave-trader into John Newton, the devoted Christian pastor, reformer and author of the hymn, "Amazing Grace."
Praise God that in this changing world, His unchanging love in Christ can still change us...for the BETTER! Friend, do you have a grip on that love? Have you invited Jesus Christ to take His rightful place as Captain in your life? And are you sharing that life-changing love with others?
In Christ the Living Lord,
Dick Mortimore, pastor
