Haiti Connection Update

Thank you, thank you to so many who donated to our fund raiser that ended on July 5th. If you missed it, one of my personal goals has always been to get Norm Buskey to wear shorts to church in the summer.  I asked Norm if he would agree to do so if we raised $500.00 or more for mission work in Haiti .  He agreed and all of you responded. I think the final number was over $1000.00! We all had fun and my hope is that we can continue to celebrate the Sunday following July fourth as casual Sunday, come as you are.

The purpose of the fundraising is to help offset travel expenses for individuals who hope to travel to Haiti in March.  There are a number of brothers and sisters who feel a call to this mission.  As they discern this call and make it known to all of us, I pray that you will support them with prayer and funds to carry out God’s work.  In March, the goal of the mission will be to construct an office/storage room attached to the end of the current school building.  The current structure is not lockable or water tight, so school supplies have been stolen. When you work in a country with people living in desperation this is one of the problems we simply “deal with.”

The hope is to build a concrete block structure with steel locking doors that will provide a permanent solution to the current problem.  Yes we need people with trade skills to do this project, but I promise you God can use the skills of anyone willing to serve His people. So…. "I don’t know how to build" is not an excuse here. The team I traveled with last December will be in Haiti from September 15th -22nd. In fact if you are reading this during those dates please pause at this time to pray for Pete, Carol, Dean and the rest of the team.

When the team returns I hope to have more specific information about the building project, and updates on the school program.  In the coming weeks watch and listen for more ways you can help and serve in this mission. If you don’t feel called to Haiti that’s okay too, just keep your eyes and your heart open for the mission God has for you. It may be closer than you think.  I don’t believe Jesus calls us to save the world. He already did that. He just calls us to help one or two. We all have in our power the ability to change the world for someone. In response to what Christ has done for us, go and do, for one or two.

Your brother in Christ,
Jeff Haines
