OUR
MISSIONS and SOCIAL CONCERNS
Fisk United Methodist actively supports many areas of Mission and Social Concerns.
International Missions We Support
- We recently have signed a Covenant with the General Board of Global Ministries to support a UM Missionary teaching Old Testament in Zimbabwe. Rev. Ted Brandt and his family have been serving the UMC in Zimbabwe for over 7 years. Their tenure is coming to a conclusion and they will return to the states.
- We have agreed to support Kayle and Mat Pelletier as they make plans to do missionary work and teach in Zimbabwe by the fall of 2006. We will support them financially and with our prayers.
- We have annually supported the work of Heifer International, as they have programs around the world, bettering the lives of others.
- Through an Annual Alternative Christmas Program, sponsored by United Methodist Women we have supported World Hunger with our gifts.
United States Missions We Support
- Hattie B. Cooper Community Center - We support Cooper with funds, donations of school supplies and an annual Work Day. Some members attend their Annual Reach for the Stars event, which support the budget of this non-profit agency in Boston.
- Each Veterans' Day members of Fisk sign and deliver more than 250 "Thank You" cards for bedridden patients at local the Veterans' Hospitals.
- Meals
We provide several meals each year for Rosie's Place and the Homeless Veterans in Boston
- United Methodist Economic Ministries
in Strong, Maine is an agency of the New England Conference in the very deprived area of the Western Mountains of Maine. Fisk collects and delivers good, usable clothing, basic household items and Christmas gifts for children. Mittens and Hats are sent in January. Men's Club buys 60-70 Balsam Wreaths each November to re-sell in Natick.
Local Missions We Support
- Natick Food Pantry We support with regular weekly donations of non-perishable food, with workers who stock the shelves and those who distribute food to those in need. Fisk serves on a bi-monthly schedule. We also support our local pantry by participating in the annual Souper Bowl.
- The Open Door
Folks from Fisk help prepare and serve meals for those who eat alone as well as those who benefit from a weekly meal.
- We support the Natick Service Council with funds as well as organizing the Fuel Assistance program and the Thanksgiving In-gathering.
- FACE Children's Center
operates 5 days a week in our church building. Fisk members organized this support to working parents 35 years ago and this is still an active ministry of Fisk Church.
- Relay for Life
is a signature event of the American Cancer Society. Fisk has supported this effort since 2004. It is a wonderful opportunity to serve those in need, to celebrate life and to be part of our community.
