What to expect when you visit... You will be greeted by a caring congregation that will gladly welcome you. Relax, and experience preaching and teaching that is centered on the Word of God.

What we offer...
Our music-rich service includes traditional and contemporary selections, a choir and bell choir, congregational participation and the involvement of our children. We are known for friendly fellowship, service/mission opportunities, and educational ventures for all ages.

History

Our beginnings date to 1911 when a small group of worshippers founded the First Methodist Protestant mission in the city of Reidsville. Our present church building was completed in 1959 on South Scales Street. We are a member church of the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church. First United Methodist Church is responsive to the needs of its members and the community through our ministry and mission to bring each into the life and fellowship of the church of Jesus Christ.

Our Vision

Here at First United Methodist Church our love for Christ, for one another and for the world cannot be hidden. We believe as Jesus said that such light cannot be hidden; thus, it is our desire as a church family to make sure that our light shines as a beacon for the community of Reidsville and into the whole world. In having the light of Christ within us, we know that we are a place where ALL people belong, believe and become loving disciples of Lord Jesus Christ.

BELONG... At First Church, we believe that every person searches for a place to belong and be a part. Everyone has a place at First Church; therefore, it is our aim to make all people comfortable, welcome and secure, particularly the unchurched. We are to be a beacon of light in reaching out, inviting and nurturing all people to belong in Christ.

BELIEVE... At First Church, we believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, and we believe the best way to live out our faith grows through our Methodism. That means our faith grows through knowing why and for WHOM we live - Jesus. We nurture the light within through prayer, study, and worship. As a church we will support the ministries and tools that help us not only find faith in Jesus Christ, but that also help us mature in that faith.

BECOME... At First Church, we seek to become more like Christ every day. We are building a life that counts. That means we don't hide who we are in Jesus Christ - we let our light shine through helping others in need, serving in our community, helping others find faith in Jesus Christ, and making a positive difference in the world. We will help each other discover our gifts to transform the world. This is what it means to become a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Statement of Faith (The Apostle's Creed)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, bible suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.
