We work with other churches
in our conference to raise awareness and money for missionaries both here and
abroad. Locally, we support groups such as Ranch Hope, the Food Pantry and the
Atlantic City Rescue Mission.
Meetings are the 1st Tuesday of the month (as part of The Quad Squad). New members and ideas are always welcome! Contact Janet Myer at jlmrdh1970@aol.com
Noisy Can Sunday
The jar weighed 35 lb. and was too heavy to carry to church. When it was emptied
and the coins counted (thanks to Commerce Bank's Penny Arcade) there was $383.
The need, however, for food and shelter for the children of Liberia continues,
and so will our collection of loose change on the second and fourth Sundays.
Thank to Brenda LeConey and the children's choir for all their help.
Atlantic City Rescue Mission
In operation for over 40
years the Atlantic City Rescue Mission is a nonprofit, Christian social service
ministry that provides life-saving care for the poor and homeless in all of
southern New Jersey. People who have no home, no family or friends, or no sense
of self-worth receive practical help, counseling, and Christian compassion.
Through effective, innovative, Christian-based recovery programs, the Mission
brings people out of despair and into a productive, good quality of life within
the community. Their Mission Statement is: The Atlantic City Rescue Mission is
set apart by the Spirit of God to preach the Gospel and meet the physical,
emotional and other needs (through the provision of shelter, clothing, food,
counseling, referral and structured programs) of the poor and those who are
bound and bruised by addictive lifestyles in Atlantic County and the surrounding
communities
In 2004 they served 2,790 single individuals plus 81 Mothers/families and 156
children. The programs they offer include the following:
18-month residential addiction recovery (Overcomers Program)
120-day Work Readiness Program
One-on-one counseling
Two chapel services each day
Daily Bible studies
Job placement program, in partnership with local businesses
Assistance in finding permanent housing
Parenting and nutrition classes
Pre-school for children ages 3-5
Barnabas House, a transitional housing program in Wildwood, NJ for graduates of
addiction recovery programs
In 2004 they served over 236,175 meals.
They receive no federal funding but instead relies on donations from local
individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations to meet operating costs. In
2004, these donations constituted 70.63% of their operating income. Without such
kindness from the local community, the Mission would be unable to help as many
people as it does each year. Their goal for operating costs for 2005 is
$2,976,716. So far they have only $500,000. There are also many opportunities
for volunteers to serve. You can visit their website at
www.acrescuemission.org or call
them at (609) 345-551

Aspirin
As we have in the past, during the Lenton season we will be collecting
aspirin for the Enrights in Zaire. Our goal is always collecting 100 bottles of
aspirin, so please remember this when you go shopping in the next few weeks. A
bottle of 100 generic aspirin cost less than $2.00, but the relief it can bring
is beyond measure.
Red Bird Missions is helping promote economic development in Appalachia by selling craft items made by the people of this region. I have visited their website and they have beautiful baskets, woodcrafts, kitchen items, ornaments, and so much more. The site has pictures of the items so you can shop, order, and purchase them at your convenience. It was very easy to navigate. Just go to rbmission.org and click on the craft shop link. Have someone hard to buy for? The person who has everything? Consider giving to an Advance ministry in someone's name. There are over 2,000 ministries in 100 countries. 100% of your gift goes to the ministry. There are alternative-giving cards to announce your gift. Just contact Janet Myer at jlmrdh1970@aol.com .

Food Pantry
On my last trip to the Monroe Township Food Pantry I was shocked to see how
bare their shelves were. We will be running a food drive in conjunction with the
Sunday School this month and next month, but there is a need NOW. Please
remember this when you are food shopping in the next few weeks. Any and all
items are needed. Donations may be placed in the bin in "Mission Alley" as you
enter the front door of the church, or in a basket at the Church Street door.
Greater NJ and Liberia annual Conference
The Greater NJ Annual Conference is in its third year of building a
relationship with the Liberia Annual Conference. Liberia, is a small country on
the west coast of Africa, has suffered through several years of civil conflict
that has devastated the country's health and education institutions. Our church
already supports the Bishop Judith Craig Children's Home through a monthly
contribution from our Mission budget, Through the coming months the Committee
for Missions and Social Concerns will focus on the partnership between our two
conferences with several giving projects. One will be Noisy Can Sunday. On the
Sundays the Children's Choir sings, they will go through the congregation
collecting loose change that will be placed in a larger container outside the
sanctuary. Those attending the 8:15 service will also be invited to contribute.
Monies collected in the next few months will go toward monthly donations of
rice, the building of a training and retreat center for youth, and specific and
immediate needs for the conference to respond rapidly. Again and always thank
you so much for your generous giving.
