History of the Church

The congregation of the First United Methodist Church of West Webster originally came from 1027 Ridge Road, which was then called North Penfield.  When the need came for more churches, some of the congregation went to Webster and some to West Webster.
The Sunday school in West Webster was established in 1858 and the church incorporated in 1859.  From the beginning in 1810 at 1027 Ridge Road until now, we have had 113 ministers in the pulpit.  Our pastor now is Jennifer Calos who came to us in July, 2001.
Many of Webster’s early settlers have been a part of our congregation and have contributed to the development of both our church and the Webster area.  Some names of recognition are Peet, Blanchard, Lewis, Trimble, Hegedorn, Gent, Winslow, Dayton, Twitchell, Beebee, Wollschlegel, Welcher, Schlagel, Walters, Van Buren, Mandeville, Smith, and Hard.
Our education wing was built in 1955 and the sanctuary in 1967. In 2001 renovation of the education wing entry has resulted in a new Gathering Room for social activities. Also, the remodeling developed a new library room, a large display  cabinet for historical items and handicap accessible rest rooms.
