Church Conference is Sunday, Oct. 29! United Methodist Churches of Rice County will have their church conferences HERE at our church at 7:00 p.m.

All Saints Celebration: Sunday, November 5, 2006. During the three services we will remember those wonderful people that this congregation has lost to death this year. We will be celebrating the lives of the following people:

Fern Fail
Arthur Harvey
Barbara Stovall
Joseph R. Barrientos
Dwain Janssen
Theo Sloan
Mary Jane Stubby
Edna Blankenship
Leola Groth
Janice Brubaker
Mary Nickel
LaVerne Metcalf
Dale W Cavit
Hugh Brubaker
Opal Swenson
Walter Leon Alton
Zella Wixon
Wayne Phillips
Dale E. Williams
Doug Sillin

There will be flowers placed on the altar in memory of each person, and a candle will be lit in their honor during all three services. Family members are invited to take the flowers home after the service.

We also want to acknowledge that many of us have personal saints that we want to celebrate. During each of the three services, there will be tea lights (small candles) available for each us to light in memory of someone who has meant so much to our own lives. I hope all of you will join in celebrating the saints of this congregation and the saints of our lives.

October is Breast Cancer Month – The flowers represent October Breast Cancer Awareness Month and for all the lives that have been touched by this disease. Remember, early detection saves lives.

Food Bank Sunday, October 29th- Our cash flow and donations are down. In the last 3 months, we’ve gained 47 new families and 122 people. Consequently, we are not giving (unless donated) dish, laundry soap, and toilet tissue. Perhaps the Sunday Schools classes could bring one of these items as well as cereal, canned fruit, or soup. Please know we are happy to receive any items. Thanks so much! Statistics for this year: Food given out: 10 tons, Food bought: 5 tons, Served 500 families.

M&M- Here is my challenge to you. If we pay our Mission and Ministry (M&M’s) askings in full for 2006; I, your pastor, will provide you with a full blown M&M party (the kind that melt in mouth and not in your hands) on the last Sunday of January in 2007. It will not be little bags of bite size M&M’s. I am talking about a full blown, eat um up, M&M party. Let’s pay those M&M’s!

Currently we still owe a little over $11,000 of our $29,604 allocation. This year’s allocation was based upon 13.25% of our 2004 expenditures (not including M&M’s or Advance Specials (approved missions)). Our M&M’s are as follows:

1. Ministerial Services (Board of Ordained Ministry, Moving, District Superintendents, etc.) - $6,655

2. World Services (Supports denomination wide ministry including missionaries, evangelism, and church growth.) - $8,320.

3. Administrative Services (Supports legislative work of the General Conference, Kansas Area Resource Center, Igniting Ministries, etc.) - $4,986

4. Conference Benevolences (Mercy ministries to the hungry and homeless, support for Hispanic ministries, ministries for the incarcerated, camping, youth, etc.) – $9,297

5. Missions Beyond Kansas (Mount Sequoya, Africa University, etc.) - $346

Two Part Time Positions: The SPPRC has approved two part time positions (1000 hrs/yr for each) to replace Connie’s position as Christian Education Director. One position is the Christian Education Director. They will be responsible for the organization of the education department, and the recruitment, motivation, and training of education workers (teacher, helpers, VBS directors, etc.). The other position will be for a Youth Worker to lead and work directly with our youth. If you are interested please contact Quentin for more information.

Calling all Youth: The Senior High Youth Group will “fire up” again with a weenie roast at Kevin and Teri Dwyer’s at 5:00 pm of November 12th. Be sure to mark your calendars, and bring a friend!

BON AMI SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS: we will be meeting Nov. 10th at 6 p.m. in the Church Basement to pack shoe Boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Gifts will go to children from 2-14 years of age. Suggested items include: hygiene items, toys (not war related), clothing and candy (hard candy, not chocolate). Keep in mind the items must fit in a shoe box that are provided. The class would like to invite anyone in the church to join them for a fun evening. There will be a soup supper before we start packing boxes.

Thank you from Clair Sutton for the Birthday cards, thoughts and prayers that came their way.

Celebration: the Hutchinson Disaster team has been given an 18’ trailer to store their supplies in. This came after an outpouring of gifts from both the District UMW’s and district churches gave them more supplies than they had storage. Sterling UMC donated the trailer upon hearing of the need.

THRIFT STORE NEEDS YOUR HELP: If you can work at the Thrift Store on Tuesday, oct. 31st from 1-5 p.m. please contact Linda Hogan or just show up to work. Full or part-time help is welcome. Please come out to help this vital ministry in our community!
