NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE
October 8, 2007
DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM
We have read "Do not be Anxious" and confess that we find that hard. Here are some suggestions for us! These are more to add to last week.
CHRISTIAN WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS
13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.
16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough exercise.
18. Eat right.
19. Get organized so everything has its place.
20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write thoughts and inspirations down.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.
More will be in the next e-mail.
See Ya' Sunday!
Love in Christ,
Rev. Jim
UPCOMING EVENTS
OCTOBER 14TH
CHILDREN'S SABBATH
We will have our children and parents lead the worship service. Your family can help be a liturgist, usher, take offering, sing special music and/or share a testimony. We are also going to be baptizing children on that day. It doesn't matter your age....it only matters where your heart is. Last year we baptized 8 beautiful children from ages 6 weeks to 7th grade. I pray you will consider to take this courageous step! Kids are singing at 10:45 service "Awesome God"

BUY A BRICK! Five years ago we had a "Buy a Brick" campaign to help fund the decorating of our Sunday School classrooms. We have so many new families in our church since then and want to give them the opportunity to have their names on a brick, as well or give the opportunity again to those who were here 5 years ago. Our new curriculum for Club 3:16 and Sunday School involved the church having to buy over 50 Bibles for our children. This project will help us pay for our new Bibles. You can have one name on a brick, your families name, in honor or memory of someone you love. Please contact Miss Lynae. For all ages!!!

The 2nd/4th group will continue to meet in the parlor. However, the 1st/3rd group will meet in the Youth game room. New members are still welcome to join us. We are reading The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel and will be discussing about one chapter per meeting. The October reading schedule will be:
