NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE

December 6, 2007

DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM

ADVENT QUESTIONS are on the agenda for the Advent Chapel Communion service today. They are large enough to share with you in our e-mail letter. The questions are these 1) Is Advent just another SEASON? Does it get some calendar attention and lip service simply because it is that time of year. Will we just honor our annual traditons and that will be that? 2) Is Advent just a SUGGESTION with no mandatory requirements or commitments? Is it to be observed if there is room leftover in our busy lives? And, if so, how so? . or 3) Is Advent a SURFACE event? Does it not deserve depth, content, and/or compassion?

Our biblical source for answers to these Advent questions is Isaiah 2: 1-5, and Psalms 122. Hopefully your reading of these scriptures will help you answer these Advent questions, at least get a sense of what God has in mind!

Happy Advent, or should I say have a Serious and Spiritual Advent?

See ya' Sunday for our Christmas Cantata.

Love in Christ,

Rev. Jim

Hello Everyone,
> We appreciate all your prayers and inquiries about Debbie and know they
> all helped in her progress. The wheel chair and hospital bed have returned
> to the rental site. She is giving piano lessons again and is driving some.
> She can make the stairs and wash her hair now. She still walks with
> crutches and she visits the therapists at their place instead of the home
