DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM

We have read "Do not be Anxious" and confess that we find that hard. Here are some suggestions for us!

CHRISTIAN WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS

1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the
day unrushed.
4. Say No, to projects that won't fit into your
time schedule, or that will compromise your
mental health.
5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough,
two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.
9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and
difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard
things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you to do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do
anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards
for ordinary purchases.

More will be in the next e-mail.

See Ya' Sunday!

Love in Christ,

Rev. Jim

We will have our children and parents lead the worship service. Your family can help be a liturgist, usher, take offering, sing special music and/or share a testimony. We are also going to be baptizing children on that day. It doesn't matter your age....it only matters where your heart is. Last year we baptized 8 beautiful children from ages 6 weeks to 7th grade. I pray you will consider to take this courageous step! You must let Miss Lynae or Rev. Jim know by October 7th. This is for all families with children of any ages!

BUY A BRICK! Five years ago we had a "Buy a Brick" campaign to help fund the decorating of our Sunday School classrooms. We have so many new families in our church since then and want to give them the opportunity to have their names on a brick, as well or give the opportunity again to those who were here 5 years ago. Our new curriculum for Club 3:16 and Sunday School involved the church having to buy over 50 Bibles for our children. This project will help us pay for our new Bibles. You can have one name on a brick, your families name, in honor or memory of someone you love. Please contact Miss Lynae. For all ages!!!

Dear Church Family:

Thank you for all your prayers and concerns for our grandson, Anthony Meneely. Quote from Anthony's e-mail (will be landing no later than the 27th of September in Hawaii my home base. I'd like to thank all for supporting me through this last deployment. It is been by far one of the most trying times of my life and I wouldn't have been able to do it without the support I've received from people back home.) end quote. CLUB 3:16 began on Wednesday, September 19th at 3:00 p.m. This is an after school Wednesday program. We ask that parents help with snacks, and volunteer as helpers and drivers. This year we are using a BIBLE BLITZ curriculum that gets kids into the Bible each week and even better, gets the Bible into kids as they apply what they've learned! For children K-5th grade

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14th - CHILDREN'S SABBATH - Special things will be happening at First UMC - See article at first of newsletter

REMEMBER that KID'S NIGHT OUT will be on the Fourth Friday this month, October 26th from 5:30-8:00 p.m.

REMEMBER THAT THE UMW RUMMAGE SALE WILL BE ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5th from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sarah Circle will be coordinating the sale.

YOUNG WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY

The Young Women's Bible Study has decided that our group has gotten a bit large for a "small" group, but we also want to continue our practice of welcoming new women to our group. As a result, we will be dividing into two groups, one which meets on the first and third Mondays and the other which meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. The 2nd/4th group will continue to meet in the parlor. However, the 1st/3rd group will meet in the Youth game room. New members are still welcome to join us. We are reading The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel and will be discussing about one chapter per meeting. The October reading schedule will be:
Oct. 1/Oct. 8: Introduction; On the road to answers
Oct. 15/Oct. 22: Objection #1 (Since evil…)

If you have any questions, please contact Teri Heckert (theckert@truman.edu or (660) 342-1760).
