NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE

April 2, 2008

DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM

WOW! It was billed as a "Delightful Musical for Children", but it turned out to be a powerful presentation of the "dreams" that God has for each of us, that will bring meaning to our lives and glory to God and good to others (quite a trinity). Our applause reflected our approval, but the larger indication of our receptivity to the presentation and proclamation that our children (and the adults involved) challenged us with would be the acting out of the revealed truth as each of us look for and flesh out God's dream for us, and for First UMC! We applaud God with praise and participation in the revealed dreams!

"Thank you" to our children and our children's ministries staff for the presentation and to God for the possibilities illuminated. Those of us who tend to doubt with Thomas can also affirm with Thomas the reality of the resurrected Christ as we celebrate and ponder God's vision that God's victory enables.

Next Sunday is another potential WOW Sunday with our Girl Scouts, Youth Praise Band, Women's Retreat, and time at the Lord's Table to remember and receive God's grace in Christ!
See ya' Sunday,

Love in Christ,

Rev. Jim

Invitation from Rev. Jim
to Trinity Bible Study

Our Spring Semester of Trinity Bible Study began on Wednesday, March 26th, with two sections being offered (noon and five-thirty). We will be studying the last eight books of our Bible: James through Revelation, so it will be an exciting study, and I hope that you can be a part of it and that you will find it meaningful. We will conclude on May 28th. Talk with Rev. Jim if you are interested.

JOYS

As mentioned in Rev. Jim's Devotion, the Children's Easter Musical was great!

We will be hearing about the projects of our Girl Scouts on Sunday.

Shirley Green, Hilda Novinger's daughter, sent an e-mail saying that Hilda will soon be well enough to come home. They will have help from the Home Health Agency and also several relatives are coming to help her get settled. We are happy to hear this news.

Pat and Jim Murdock would like to announce the marriage of their daughter, Lesley Kellison, to John Hicks on Saturday, March 8th in Mobile, Alabama.

Thanks to Becky Harrison for typing up the book plates for the new hymnals and Bibles. They will be in the Pews soon.

Thanks to Kinsey Helton and Janette Helton for their help in the church office during the Easter time.

Thanks to the ATSU Students who assisted in the worship service on Sunday: Melinda Brown, Mark Brown, and Erick Schuermann.
