NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE
February 23, 2007
DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM
The welcome warm weather outside my office window gives a glimpse of a new season that is to come and be celebrated. Spring brings with it the hope of new life, new energy, time outside, and golf.
The Christian liturgical calendar is similar in that a new season is before us, the season of Lent. Lent follows the season of Epiphany and affords a time to prepare our lives spiritually for the Good News that we will be so hungry and thirsty for in the Easter time at the conclusion of our Lenten experiences.
So the season of “manifestation” gives way to the season of “preparation”! Let us prepare our hearts to receive all that the God of the Epiphany has before us.
See ya' Sunday!
Love in Christ,
Rev. Jim

WESLEY HOUSE SUNDAY SUPPERS
Check the sign-up sheet on the office window for times you can help the Wesley House Campus Ministry by providing food for their Sunday evening meal.
This is a great type of mission project for you and your family or your Sunday School class or group to be involved in. The students will appreciate a home-cooked meal and also enjoy visiting with you.
Please plan for 25-30 people. All you need to do is take the food to the Wesley House at 903 S. Davis. The students will help with the drinks and table service when you get there. The suggested time is by 5 p.m. as the meal is at 6 p.m. That will give you enough time to get things ready.
You may email Wesley at wesley@truman.edu or call 660-665-2331. This is a wonderful way to help our students!
Beginning Wednesday, February 28th, in Lent there will be Mid-Week Lenten Chapel Communion Services from 12:05-12:55 p.m.
DAFFODIL SUNDAY
This special day will be on Sunday, March 11th this year. This is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The Memorial Committee has purchased Daffodils for those who requested them and will list their names in the bulletin that Sunday.
You may pick up your daffodil after the 10:45 a.m. service on March 11th.

COPING WITH SUICIDE LOSS
Mark Twain Area Counseling Center of Kirksville is starting a free support group for people who have lost someone by suicide. The first of the monthly sessions will be held on Monday, March 12th, from 6-7:30 p.m. Reservations are not required. For many people, a crucial part of healing is the support and sense of connections gained by sharing their grief with other survivors. The most common way this sharing occurs is through "suicide survivor groups." The group isa safe place to share your experience and support each other. Inquiries can be made by calling Mark Twain Counseling Center at 665-4612.
