High School Graduation will be on Sunday, May 25th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pershing Arena, at Truman State University.

Church Offices will be closed on Monday, May 26th in observance of Memorial Day.


STAFF POSITION OPENING - The Staff Parish Relations Committee is seeking applications for the position of Director of the Chancel Choir. This Choir sings at the 10:45 service. Applications are available in the office. Please talk to Rev. Jim for a job description.

Congratulations to Adam Morton on receiving the Louis Armstrong Award on May 1st at the annual Kirksville Jazz Band Concert. Adam is the son of Jamey and Bridget Morton.

Jamey and Bridget Morton want to invite you to a graduation reception in honor of their son, Adam, on Sunday, May 25th, following the high school graduation ceremony. This will be at their home at 902 E. Northtown Road.


SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

All members and friends of First United Methodist Church are invited to the Celebration of the 60th wedding anniversary of Bob and Marilyn Barrett hosted by their family. This will be held on Saturday, May 31st from 2-4 p.m. in Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church. They were married on June 3, 1948. No gifts, please. Your presence is our gift. Congratulations to Jenna Tucker, daughter of Rod and Teri Tucker and Cheryl Dye, who graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA in English.

Congratulations to Laura Piper, granddaughter of Dona Truitt and great niece of Eldon and Jeanne Coy, who received a Master of Education Degree in Counseling and Psychology from the University of Missouri in Columbia on May 16th.

CHESTER AND LOLA BELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Congratulations to the recipients of the Chester and Lola Bell Memorial Scholarships for 2008-2009. First time recipients are: Melinda Harrison, daughter of Keith and Rebecca Harrison who plans to attend Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA to study Music Education; Jourdain Johns, daughter of Scott and Pam Johns who plans to attend Missouri State University in Springfield; Laura Kling, daughter of Bob and Debbie Nothdurft who plans to attend Yale University; Courtney Lovegreen, daughter of Bill and Carol Lovegreen, who plans to attend Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL; Adam Morton, son of Jamey and Bridget Morton who plans to attend Central Methodist University in Fayette; Daniel Titus, son of Dallas and Kim Titus, who plans to attend Truman State University; and Kevyn Wiskirchen son of Larry and Marie Wiskirchen, who plans to attend Truman State University. Second year recipients are: Thomas Redmon, son of Chris and Marsha Redmon, who is attending Truman State University and Sarah Riley, daughter of Rick and Shirley Riley, who is attending the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Congratulations to our graduating seniors! Baccalaureate will be today at 2:00 p.m. in the Kirksville Middle School Auditorium. High School Graduation Ceremonies will be next Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Pershing Arena at Truman State University. R-II High School at Brashear and will be attending Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau. Holly Kite, granddaughter of Anna Eagen, will graduate from Knox County High School and attend Moberly Community College. Kyle Strasser, grandson of Dodie Strasser and son of David and Teresa Srasser will graduate from Freeport, Il. Novelle Meredith’s grandson, Stan Hauser, will graduate from Shrine Catholic High School in Royal Oaks, Michigan.

Thanks to the Nurture and Education Committee and the Youth Committee for hosting the Reception for the Seniors last Sunday.

This year we are using the "Hands On Bible" curriculum. Kids need to learn the truth to live it-HANDS on BIBLE takes kids right into the Bible. DON'T LET YOUR CHILD/REN MISS THIS! Sunday School at 9:30 a.m.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

Young Women's Bible Study will meet on Monday, May 26th at the church at 6:00 p.m.

Make plans to attend the UMW Unit Picnic on Thursday, June 5, at 6:00 p.m. at Brashear Park

Mom & Kid Fellowship

Every Tuesday morning from June 3rd - August 19th 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Come to church and let the kids play on our awesome new playground while moms chit chat and drink their coffee. Cookies or popsicles and drinks will be provided for kids! Coordinators are Angie Danielson and Anitra Crisp

Mom's Morning Out
1st Thursday of every month from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. beginning on Thursday, June 5th

Trinity Bible Study will continue for 1 more week on Wednesday, May 28th, at noon and 5:30 p.m.

FOOD FOR KIDS

Again this summer a free sack lunch with drink and dessert will be provided for kids who need it. Beginning July 7th, lunches will be served Monday through Friday and will end on August 15th. Come anytime between 12 noon and 1 p.m. for a sack lunch at one of these parks. Jaycee Park, Brashear Park, PC Mills Park, or Memorial Park

Volunteers are always needed. As a business, group, or individual you could hand out lunches, prepare lunches, help unload food shipments, provide a monetary donation, or provide a specific item of need. To volunteer, contact Bev Kitts. Volunteers are needed beginning July 21st. We have the first two weeks staffed. Denise Comstock is the Coordinator.

Kirksville Community Band is beginning on June 2nd and will practice each Monday night through July 14th from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Kirksville High School Band Room.

All musicians from high school age and older are welcome to attend.

Performances will be July 4th at the Court House
and July 18th at Court House.

Directors are Dr. Jay Bulen, Music Department Chair from Truman State University and Brad Hudson Director of Bands for the Kirksville R-III School District.
