NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE

March 21, 2008

DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM

JOYS AND CONCERNS

Every week in our worship times when we do "joys and concerns", I recognize, as I'm sure you do, there are an abundance of both, which produces my weekly "mixed emotions" at our prayer time. Holy Week is an exaggeration of this experience, there is much in this week to give "concern" (betrayal, lack of understanding, faith commitment, energy, willingness to share pain, etc.) as well as much to offer "joy" (information, inspiration, forgiveness, commitment, faithfulness, grace, love, power)—my hope is that we emerge on Easter Sunday with the clear victory of the "joy" side to celebrate.

See ya' Sunday,

Love in Christ,

Rev. Jim

Thanks to the Combined Choir for the beautiful Easter Cantata on Palm Sunday.

To the First United Methodist Church Community:

I want to thank you all for all of the lovely and thoughtful cards of condolence regarding my mother's passing. Mother was a committed Christian and lived a good life, so her funeral service could truly be a celebration of her life here on earth as well as her future with our Lord. It was a beautiful and uplifting service. Hundreds of people attended her visitation and her service.

I will eventually get back to church, but have some other family obligations for now, but again, I so appreciate the overwhelming response from so many people.
