NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE
February 20, 2008
DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM
Sunday was a WOW Sunday of a different sort, mainly weather wise, the rain came, and the ice, and then the snow, with the wind. At first the snow was beautiful (WOW) and since it was during church time many of us shared the beauty together, and it was the topic of conversation—but the wind turned the beauty into something less attractive and less welcome (sort of like the ice earlier). Yet, we all are comforted in the knowledge that this will pass and warmer weather will soon be here and winter storms will be a memory ("remember the winter of 07'-08"?), and we will appreciate even more the nicer weather.
Our snowbird friends avoid these times and return to hear us talk about "what was" while they were away.
Our spiritual journeys have parallels, in that Lent brings the winter time of the hard work of reflection and introspection and acknowledgment of sin—but thanks be to God that the Lenten time gives way to the welcome and needed Easter time, and news of the victory of resurrection—which is much more appreciated having gone through the winter of Lent.
So, have a WOW Lent!
See ya' Sunday,
Love in Christ,
Rev. Jim

There are cardboard boxes in the Narthex to collect this money as well as a Lent Devotional Book from the Society of St. Andrew.
