NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE
January 19, 2007
DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM
As I look out my office window, the scene is a winter one that evokes several thoughts. One is the unpleasantness the snow and ice and cold bring, including the danger and the difficulty (in today's Conference e-mail we learned how people were suffering in other parts of our State).
Another thought is about the beauty of the sun on the ice-covered trees, how it makes them glisten and sparkle.
The third thought is how I will personally be impacted. Will I go out into the winter weather? Will I note the cold more than the beauty —the difficult more than the dynamic? I, along with others, with justification could choose not to go out, to stay in where it is warm and dry and safe, and simply keep looking out the window at the "beauty".
Similar thoughts and decisions are before us about all of life, we can note its force and beauty as a spectator or we can become involved as a participant. The Christ invites us to choose the latter, would have us meet life head on with God's resources to assist and guide and to share with fellow life travelers—to know and live life "abundantly"!
See ya' "outside" next Sunday!
Love in Christ,
Rev. Jim
