NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE
April 18, 2007
DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM
"WOW!" again, three "wow" weeks in a row with the Cantata, Easter, and the Children's Musical, thanks be to God and to the persons who serve the Lord through First UMC in these special ways.
I'm sure that many of us can identify with the issues of friendship and loyalty that arose in the Musical, and particularly the Apostle Peter's roller coaster faith/service/worship/denial/not understanding cycle of involvement with the Christ. I'm grateful for Peter's honesty and openness, and a little disappointed with his wavering commitment and stubbornness, but admire his boldness—eventually he gave his all for the Christ and His church, and made it stronger and more exciting than it otherwise would have been.
The learning from Peter's witness could be to know that each of us and all of us have some gifts to give and some baggage that occasionaly interferes, and that we all desperately need the forgiving grace of our awesome God, revealed to us in the Risen Christ!
The Easter story is one of hope and help!
Love in Christ,
Rev. Jim
YOUTH-LED SUNDAY is on Sunday, April 22nd! Don't miss this!
Very important Youth Sunday Information.
Attention all Youth Sunday youth who are helping. We are switching the practice time on Saturday to 4-7. This way anyone who is going to the Spring Dance still can come and
practice. We will still have fellowship/game time from 6-7. We will provide snacks not dinner, so please eat before you come.
Chuck Heckert, Director of Youth Ministries
Thanking God . . . For Your Servant Heart!
First UMC loves its church family!
We are looking at expanding how you can serve at First UMC. More people could be involved on Sunday mornings. There are several different ways to serve God in worship. In scripture it says, “Doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men.” Hebrews 6:6b-7
This Sunday morning commitment is only once every 2 months. We are collecting names. If you have already received a schedule from your coordinator, please follow that.

Lord Jesus, how would you have me serve today – in worship, in acts of love, by simply waiting for you, by resting in you? Show me, Lord.
