NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE

DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM
"All things work together for good for those who love God...." is a familiar verse and promise that is troubling sometimes because we are in the midst of a bad or difficult time and have trouble seeing the good. I understand that dilemma, I've also spent time there, but I think this verse challenges us to look for the good, ask for the good, work for the good˜"given this situation and reality, what good can come from it in my life and others"˜could be the approach.
The point being that all happenings and events are opportunities for God to show us the good way, some one has said, "people's problems are God's opportunities".
It wouldn't always have to be a bad thing either, we could use a good thing as a good opportunity with God leadership and presence to bring and share good. The Thanksgiving Season could, indeed, be such a time. Could we not look for the good, give thanks for it, and witness good in this season? Could we not give thanks for someone in our lives to that someone (sometimes the very people we admire and love never know of our admiration and love)? Let's try it. Let it begin with me as I say to all of you, my First UMC family, how much I love and appreciate you and the honor that is mine to serve this Appointment! You are special people! Thanks for being and bringing "good" to me!
See ya' Sunday!
Love in Christ,
Rev. Jim
