NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE
June 11, 2008
DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM
My "28th" Annual Conference is "in the books". It will be recorded in my notes as sad, good, challenging, inspirational, and informative, leaving me with a mixture of concern and hope. There was much emphases on attracting younger people for our church as well as general and specific information and encouragement for pastors and congregations to be "other" oriented. As each speaker and thought was presented, I would think as to how that has been or will be at KV First, and generally feel very positive about what has happened here and what will happen here as God gives the leadership and the increase and the good people of First UMC continue your good work and "witness" (a new word and thought for local church membership vows approved at General Conference—but not a new idea for First UMC)!
In the rush to make our church "younger", please don't forget those who are not, and cannot be, young (funny I'm thinking more about those people now)! We heard the young people say they just wanted us to be church for and with them and they with us (kind of like a church family)—good idea, and much like our First UMC family!
Your Lay Member, Mary Lee Fleschner, and our At Large Members, Rick Fleschner, and Mariel Sweet, were faithful attendees and participants of the Conference—you can be proud of them, and know that I was.
I look forward to celebrating God's love for and with our Fathers on Sunday—two families will do that with baptisms—PTL.
Thanks to Lynae, Marla, and others who gave great leadership here while I was away.
See ya' Sunday!
Love in Christ,
Rev. Jim

Help is Needed!
I just received the food delivery schedule for Food 4 Kids. This year the deliveries will be weekly and they will deliver to our kitchen site. Help is needed to unload the truck and carry boxes, many, many boxes into the kitchen. If you are willing and able to lift at least 20 lbs, you are needed.
The truck is supposed to arrive each time at 1 p.m. on the following days:
Wednesday, July 2 and Friday(s), July 11,18,25, Aug 1, 8
This would be a great project for a Girl Scout or Boy Scout Troop, 4-H Club, youth group, club or organization. Pick out a day(s) you can help and let me know. It is also helpful to have a dolly/moving cart if you happen to have access to one.
If you can volunteer call Denise Comstock.
GOOD NEWS
