NEWS FROM FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, KIRKSVILLE

August 9, 2007

DEVOTION FROM REV. JIM

WOW! God is so good as we acknowledged with the Psalmist (107) in last Sunday's worship. We experienced God's goodness in several powerful ways in the week that was, with our awesome Summer Music Camp, our growing Food 4 Kids mission, and our Back to School Fair, our Scouts were at camp, all really special children's, youth, and family programs, a big "thank you" to all who helped in these events in the name of Christ through First UMC!

Later in the week we also experienced God's goodness when we celebrated the life of David Shoush, and prayed God's goodness to be known in new ways for Pat, and Matt, and Mike, and in eternal ways for David.

We concluded our busy week with the consecration of the marriage vows of Roberta Anderson and Michael Penn.

We were, indeed, "wowed" with God's presence, power and possibilities and know that God goes before us into our new week, PTL!

Linda and I look forward to some time away, we'll be thinking of you, our church family, and know that your thoughts will be with us, and that God will be good to you and us while we are away—the pulpit is in good hands with Mac McCord and Lynae, and Marla or Novelle can contact me should you need me.

See ya' in a couple of weeks!

Love in Christ,

Rev. Jim

AUGUST IS HOSPITALITY MONTH

We are challenging all families to invite a family to play our our new playground during Sunday School! We will have SS outside!

FOOD 4 KIDS

Last week we served 1,147 lunches for a total of 4,552 for the summer. This week we have already served 627 as of Wednesday.

If you feel like this is a good program I would love to hear from you. If you feel that changes in this program need to be made I would love to hear about that too. When this program was started we were told that it would not cost anything. That is not quite true. We have needed to make purchases. Mostly these purchases have consisted of lunch sacks and sandwich bags. However, these do not come cheap, especially when you need to purchase several thousand at a time. If you are not able to volunteer for this program and you feel it is a worthwhile program, please consider a small donation.

Thank You
Denise Comstock
