Caring Network

Chairs - Melanie Bowen and Geri Losh

The Caring Network was formed to care for the members of our congregation in several ways. We take communion to those who are not physically able to get to the church service on Sunday morning. John Kip delivers the altar flowers on Monday morning to one of our friends in need of a little cheer. Sally Smith-Lewis updates our prayer chain though e-mail almost on a daily basis. We are in the process of composing a list of people who would be willing to provide meals or transportation when the need arises. Weekly callers are a major part of the Caring Network. After our weekly attendance is taken, a list is composed of people who have missed more than 3 weeks at our Sunday worship service. The caller assigned for that week makes phone calls to these people to find out if there is a problem or need that the church is not aware of. We try to provide a connection among our church family in all of these ways.

Education Committee

Chair - Ken Budka

The education committee runs Christian education programs for children age 2 through high school seniors and adults.

  • 2&3 year olds: classroom setting with music, arts and crafts, bible stories, play time
  • 4&5 year olds: classroom setting with music, arts and crafts, bible stories, play time
  • 1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th graders: rotational program with a monthly Christian theme. Each week, classes visit different "stations" - drama, arts and crafts, tabernacle, media room, kitchen - which explore the theme from different angles.
  • 7th & 8th graders: classroom setting
  • High school: classroom setting
  • Confirmation: classroom setting
  • Adult Seekers (Martin McGilvray): group discussion
  • Adult Bible Study (Bob Sterling): group discussion

Classes meet Sundays, from September through June, at 9:30 am at the church

The program is powered by volunteers. In our rotational program, volunteers teach a lesson for one month (all materials provided by the committee), and "shepherds" accompany classes for a period of three months to assist with the lessons. Volunteers are also needed to teach classes offered in a classroom setting.

Fellowship and Outreach Committee

The Fellowship & Outreach Committee has evolved from the original 'Evangelism Committee' that dealt with everything from membership to receptions, to specifically serving as a vehicle for Christian fellowship. The committee meets quarterly or more often if needed, especially when an event is scheduled. We have successfully put together family game nights, coordinated Christmas caroling to our shut-ins and had a very successful karaoke night. Fellowship and Outreach is responsible for holiday get-togethers, such as Hanging of the Greens, receptions for confirmands, open house Septembers, and a wonderful progressive dinner this year, that we are sure to repeat.

Some of our future plans include, a chili cook off, a pasta party with a variety of sauces to please everyone's palette, and an Oktoberfest. If you would like more information about joining Fellowship & Outreach or are interested in seeing a particular event happen, please call the church office at (732) 462-1745 or e-mail fholdumc@aol.com.

Missions, Church, and Society

Chair - Glenn Meredith

The missions committee responsibilities include deciding who will receive our monthly communion offerings, deciding what missions projects our congregation should support and informing the congregation about the projects, keeping the congregation aware of special projects of the Commission on Relief, and keeping our pledges of designated amounts to support Open Door, Amistad, and Habitat for Humanity.

In the recent past we have helped with peace vigils, hung 1000+ paper cranes in Fellowship Hall to honor the victims of 9/11,2001, collected both back-to-school supplies and also Christmas gifts for Amistad children (including a Spanish New Testament for each one), established a prayer board in the back of the sanctuary, supported missionaries in Japan, and highlighted Advance Specials of UMCOR (United Methodist Commission on Relief) We hope to plan more projects as needs arise. We would be glad to support mission trips for work projects either here in the U.S. or in other countries as our congregation has done in the past as these are brought to our attention.

Please visit our Missions page for more information.

United Methodist Men

Chair - Dexter Prendergast

The United Methodist Men's Group is mostly a social group, bringing men together to talk about issues that may concern them individually or as a group. We try to relate our discussion to biblical teachings, using that as our guide. Individual Church groups may also participate in a more global group from different United Methodist Churches.

The United Methodist Men's Group of Freehold meet's on the second Saturday of each month at 8 am. We have breakfast made by volunteers from the group and made at the Church's kitchen. Away from socialization, we have moments of prayer and serious discussions of our issues.

As a subset of the Men's Group we have the Men's prayer group. This group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM at the house of one of the members who volunteer their home.

The men's group also volunteer to do different projects within the Church. All men members of the Church are welcomed to participate, it's a great way to get to know each other and give a forum to talk about issues that affect them.

Worship Committee

The Worship Committee's main function is to aid and support the pastor and the congregation with their worship needs. Our functions include taking care of the sanctuary, maintaining/finding usher and acolyte staff, helping the choir, ordering flowers for both regular services and holidays, training/supporting communion crews, and various other responsibilities based on church calendar and services. Our committee includes Annabell Minty, Louise Kip and Becky Gorman. Each member is an "expert" in their particular area of interest. Susan Whiteman is responsible for all banners and placement. Kathy Mulholland is the acolyte co-ordinator. Our committee is a busy one and is always looking for new members!
