TROOP 320 .
This past month the Troop was unable to camp and canoe at Manatee
State Park due to rising water on the river from the rain. But as
the Boy Scout motto goes "Be Prepared".
We did have a back up pian, and the boys were able to join other troops
from our council for a weekend of fun filled sports activities at
Sand Hill Scout Reservation. The next month will be busy for the boys
as they participate in trainings, fundraisers and the Church Fall
Festival. On November 10th our troop will be participating in our
annual Scouting for Food drive. We hope that we are able to help stock
the church can cupboard with this food drive. Thank you to all those
scouts and their families for donations already made and supporting
such an important ministry.
Our next Court of Honor is scheduled for October 29th at 6:30pm and
invites all those would like to support our Scouts as they are awarded
with rank advancements and merit badges that they work hard for through
out the summer. Congratulations to all.
CUB SCOUTNEWS
Our Cubs have been doing a wonderful service project for our own Can
Cupboard Ministry; they have been bringing in can goods ever since
the Cupboard ran out of food a month ago.
Now every Thursday night these young boys bring in bags of can goods
that they collected on their own. Well done Boys!!! Keep up the good
work~
"Pirate Fest" went great, everyone enjoyed the show and
the food was fabulous .There were pirates everywhere you turned, and
Treasure maps to decode, people walking the planlc even some boys
earned badges while having fun.
The Tigers are working on the Tiger patch as well as their Bobcat
patch. The Wolves are progressing as normal. The Bears are working
on their World Conservation Badge. Webelos I and II are working on
their craftsman, ready-man, and showmanship badges during the Pirate
Fest. Webelos II are also finishing up their requirements for their
"Arrow of Light" which they will receive in February.
We are just about at the 100 mark for boys, this is a great accomplishment
for our leaders, and they are doing a great job teaching these boys.
Thanks to all of them for putting their time in to teaching our future
leaders.
Let's keep supporting these leaders and boys and the great job they
do.
GIRL SCOUTiNG NEWS
It's been one year since we started Girl Scouts. In that one year
we had expanded to Daises and Juniors, we also have had some ups and
downs as we are growing. I'll bring you up to speed so hold on.
Our Brownie Troop 143 has done well for their First year; the girls
have earned 5 try-it badges and learn a great deal about each other.
Unfortunately due to lack of leadership Troop 143 was disbanded over
the summer. The bright side is that the girls were transferred to
Troop 53 which now is our new Troop as of September 11,2007. They
will be meeting on Tuesday nights from 6-Spm in room 207. The Troop
has 10 girls combined that have returned for the start up of a new
year. We have the room to add up to 8 more girls. The leader of the
Brownies is Colleen Kokemohr, she was their co-leader last year and
has stepped forward to be leader this year. She will have several
coleaders to help here with the girls. She brings with her Grandma
K who has 52 years of Girl scouting experience, as a girls scout herself
and as a leader. Ms. Diane, from our preschool has offered to be a
co-leader.. Let's give them a warm welcome.
Stop in on Tuesday nights to say Hi and get to know the leaders and
the girls. Keep your eyes open for updates on their achievements and
activities. We hope to set up a bulletin board for them in Fellowship
Hall soon.
Our Daisy Troop 245 is returning this year with 4 girls with room
to expand. Our leader is Autumn Lambert from our Pre-school. Autumn
keep the girls meeting over the summer and they just loved it. They
will be meeting this year on Monday nights from 6:30-7:3Opm in room
207, beginning September 24, 2007.
As we acquired the Troops last year, we also set up for a Junior Troop,
Troop 438. We are in the process of getting leadership as well as
girls. Keep checking back for updates.
This is the time of year as you know that fundraiser will be popping
up from all groups. This year our Girl Scouts will be selling nuts,
candy and magazines beginning Oct l~ through Oct 20tho If interested
please Contact Cheryl Atkinson or the Church office for details. Let's
show our support to these ministries that we have at our Church.
If you know of any girl, ages five and up, who might be interested
in scouting, contact the Church office or myself for details.
.
Blessings,
Cheryl Atkinson Children's Activity Director
Co-Leader for our Girls and Cub Scouts
