In Closing

On the occasion of the celebration of the city of DeLeon's 100th birthday, a ceremony at 2 p.m. was held August 8, 1981. It was for the burial of a time capsule made of concrete.

Everyone was invited to place a significant small item inside. It is planned that it will be opened in 50 years (2031).

The First United Methodist Church sponsored the affair and provided a location for the capsule burial. A marker designates the exact spot near the lighted church sign approximately in the middle of the front lawn, facing Texas Avenue.

The Centennial Committee chose the Methodist property for this significant occasion because it was the first church to be organized in the area that would be designated as DeLeon in 1881.
