The Beattie Community, located 15 miles southwest of DeLeon, was a thriving "little village" beginning about the turn of the 20th century. There were several places of business, a "good school," a Methodist Church and a Baptist Church.
Church records of its beginnings have been lost, but a revised membership roll made in 1948 by the Rev. R. L Bowman listed 48 members. The only remaining evidences of this community are a large peanut processing plant and a well-kept Baptist Church with an adjoining tabernacle labeled "Community Center."
It is said that the location of the Methodist Church was located "about a quarter of a mile down the paved farm road going south and across the street from a pink house". The Central Texas Quarterly Conference was continuing to receive reports from this church as late as 1962.
