Fields United Methodist Women is an organized
group of thirty-seven members with great support from the church
family. The group meets once a month except during July and
August, and months of special events such as dinners.
The first concern is the pledge to missions. All pledged money
given by members is used for this purpose and other mission
projects as listed on attached budget.
Another priority is meeting the needs of others both in and out
of the church membership. An attempt is made to remember all
church folks at the time of illness or bereavement. The United
Methodist Women plans and provides for all social activities
within the church unless some other group is sponsoring an
event. The UMW also assists with any projects of the church.
The group uses all United Methodist program materials, books,
special programs and supports all district, conference and
national projects. There are two subscriptions to Response
magazine.
We have met the requirements for a Six-Star Unit for this year
since we gave to the six areas of undesignated giving and
received a certificate for this. The six areas are World Thank
Offering, Gifts in Memory, Gift to Mission, Special Mission
Recognition, Pledge to Mission and Candle Burning. We also
qualified for a Silver Mission Unit Today certificate for
meeting certain criteria set up by the district and conference.
We are grateful to all the church family for their support in
helping us achieve these honors.
This year marked the tenth consecutive year we have selected
monthly Mission Honorees. A gift is sent to missions each month
in honor of a member of the congregation to recognize his/her
contribution to the life of the church.
We sponsored “Children’s Sabbath” on October 21st. Children,
young people and lay members led the worship. The service was a
“kick-off” for our sponsorship of the church’s mission project
for Lighthouse Children’s Center at Furnace Church. We have been
participating in their Santa project for families in need for
several years and are adding an ongoing aluminum recycling
project as well as the support by donations from our church and
individual members.
The primary source of income for carrying out the district and
local mission projects, other than the pledge, is sponsoring two
dinners, one in September and one in February and serving the
retired teachers dinner in May.
