The Francis Burns United Methodist Church Angelic Expressions Praise Dance Team was started in March of 2000 by Ms. Ursula Wilson. Ms. Wilson had a vision to bring her passion for dance to the church in the form of a ministry that would aid in getting young people involved in a church ministry. The group began with 23 members ranging in age from 5 - 65. The group has had several able coordinators over the years and in March of 2003 the current co-coordinators, Georgette Clemons, Mary Ann Hannah, Sharee Washington, and Elizabeth Young took the group to yet another level. The current group not only performs Liturgical Praise Dance, but also performs Dramatic pieces and Mime. All of the performances are choreographed collectively by the team. The team currently consists of 15 members ranging in age from 4 - 45. The vision for the group is to touch the hearts of the masses with the Word of God through the ministry of dance. The theme verse by which the praise team operates is "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Ph 4: 13 Evangelism Ministry Chairperson, Rudy Harris The primary focus of Evangelism is to effectively train and equip every Christian disciple with the tools they need to reach the lost . The mission of the Evangelism Ministry is the sharing of faith and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is accomplished through Bible Study, revivals, workshops, etc.initiatives that teach others to share their faith. Music Ministry Director, Michael Felton The Music Department consists of vocal and instrumental choirs. Whatever your spirit calls for musically, the music ministry can deliver. The primary goals and objectives of the Music Ministries are listed below : To humbly offer the best of their time, talents and service to God and His people. To present a broad range of repertoire that will expand the horizons of the choirs and, at the same time, reach out to different musical tastes and spiritual needs of the congregation; To learn how to apply effective instrumental and vocal techniques, ear training, and music reading at all levels. In addition, we will strive to offer opportunities for worship education for volunteers of the Music Department, its staff and congregation. To enhance the stage presence attitude, and overall delivery of all music, while focusing on encouraging camaraderie, mental and spiritual growth among its members and service/stewardship. If you are musically inclined; have an open mind; a positive attitude; and are ready to work, then the music ministry would benefit from your presence. Please stop by the choir room and pick up a copy of the current rehearsal schedule. We look forward to seeing you at that next rehearsal!
Older Adult Ministry The Older Adult Ministry inspires all to believe that we are all God's Children and our purpose is to fellowship and reach out to others and bring a bond of friendship. We share information about health services and care options for seniors, Medicare, Medicaid, Mental Health counseling services, and information on nursing home facilities. We coordinate and facilitate social events and trips. Meeting times are the second Wednesday of each month at 11:00 am and we invite all persons 55 years old and older to join us. Our Circle of Healing Chairperson, Dana Tucker The "Our Circle of Healing Ministry" is conceived out of an intense need to provide a haven for not only Francis Burns members, but also to those in the community who may be grieving due to loss. The members of our committee each bring a unique experience or perspective due to losses we've experienced, our professional experience, or a strong desire to help those who are suffering. It's our hope that our forum of listening and sharing, from a Christian perspective, will allow us to help one another as God blesses us to do. We do not judge nor do we pressure our attendees to speak; we simply pray, share, and listen. We wish to invite any member who would like to share his or her talents with this most important ministry to join us in our Christian endeavor. Meeting times are the second Monday of each month from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm in The Ashley Humphrey Child Development Center room, 110. Worship Committee The Worship Committee is the body responsible for the church's entire worship experience. This body includes several ministries that work to make the worship experience one filled with spirit and inclusiveness.
