Lamb Block

Our Commitment to Ministry

"He shall feed His flock like a shepherd; He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young."
Isaiah 40:11

Although we generate a great deal of money, we feel very strongly that this is a ministry and not just a fundraiser. In starting this ministry, we felt we were providing for a need in the community. That young mothers, women on welfare, single mothers, and families in crisis would be able to get car seats, clothing, and quality baby items at a price that they could afford.

Part of the ministry is the fellowship we experience with the many volunteers that give of their time during the week of the sale. We have experienced many blessings from meeting people from within the church and community. We get to do a lot of sharing with the moms and dads that get involved. It is our prayer that when people from the surrounding community enter our church as an involvement with this ministry, they will see Jesus in our words and actions.

Where the money goes...

We have found that we must stay very grounded in prayer and faithful to pray about the decisions we need to make concerning this ministry. God has blessed this ministry so much that we must stay faithful in using all the proceeds for His service.

The seller keeps 70% of the price in which the items where sold. Lil' Lambs keeps the other 30%. Much of the money we receive is used to benefit the children's ministries within our church. These ministries include our preschool, daycare, after-school Latchkey programs, and youth missions.

However, after tithing the first 10% to our church of the amount we keep, we have made a commitment to use 30% of our proceeds in an outreach to ministries not involved within our church. We feel this is a way for Lil' Lambs to provide a type of ministry to these organizations that are not currently being ministered to by our church. Some of these include the local food bank, clothing banks, ministries for unwed mothers, families in crisis, free daycare for families in need, and school supplies given to needy children through the local schools.

Items can be donated as well...

Each seller is given the option of donating any items that have not sold at the end of the sale. This has become a ministry in itself. It seems that even if at the beginning of the sale we haven't heard of a special need, we have been made aware of one by the end of the sale when it comes time to divide the donated items. In the past we have given some donated clothing to flood victims, fire victims, an orphanage in China, a baby pantry, local clothing banks, and the neo-natal unit in a local hospital. The donated items are never given for resale. The seller can be sure that all items given for donation are given away.

The Toy Sale...

All of the proceeds from the toy sale kept by Lil' Lambs are used to purchase Christmas gifts for needy children. Likewise, the donated toys are given to area families in need. It is such a blessing for us to be given the opportunity to go out and shop for children of local Angel Tree projects. Some of us have taken this opportunity to get our own children involved in shopping for a child of their own age.
