Welcome

Claire Sulgit-Horn

& Husband John!

There is no more exciting time in the life of a congregation than welcoming a new pastor.  There is no better pastor than Clare Sulgit-Horn!  The good news is that Clare is coming to Fayetteville & Doggett Chapel!

Clare is the daughter of Patricia Jarvis, a retired United Methodist Pastor & former District Superintendent and of the late Julian Sulgit a United Methodist Pastor.  Her  grandfather is Clair Jarvis A retired United Methodist Pastor & former District             Superintendent.

Clare Sulgit-Horn is a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College.  She received her M.Div. from Duke Divinity School.  She is ordained Deacon & Elder.  She spent a year as a chaplain at Duke University Hospital.  Clare served Wellsburg UMC for 6 years before moving to Humphreys, Tornado UMC in 2004.

John is a native of the Oak Hill Area.  Clare and John have been married for about a year.  Clare is 35 years old.

Pastor David is excited about this    appointment.  David has known Clare for the past 14 years.  They attended the Student   Forum together in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1992.  They were in the Residency program         together following Seminary.  They were in a covenant group together for a time as well.

Clare is the kind of pastor that every church wants.  She is young, yet has years of ministry experience.  Chaplaincy training is one of the best types of experience to have for pastoral ministry.  Growing up as a “PK” (Preachers Kid) adds to that              experience.  Clare is extremely intelligent.  She is a person with a strong sense of        integrity.  WELCOME!

Pastor’s Corner

Four years has passed rapidly.  I thank God for the past four years.  I moved to          Fayetteville wondering what type of place it would be.  I found out that Fayetteville is a wonderful community full of great people.

The churches accepted me in from the start.  I was initiated with several funerals and many trips to CAMC.  I tried several new things and a few even worked.  In preaching and in  Bible Studies I often presented perspectives that varied from the norm.  I was even told once that the only way my strange viewpoints were not surprising.  The only way I surprised people was when I actually said something normal!

But life is changing for me and my     family.  I am starting down a new path that is as scary as it is exciting.  I am better equipped for this change now than ever before.  I have been loved by a community that exhibits the grace of God.

So my challenge to the church and to the community is simple.  Continue to be the people you already are!  As you loved me and my    family, love Clare and John.  As you permitted me to do things differently at times, give that same grace to Clare.  Don’t say things like, “David never did that”.  The reason I probably didn’t is because I wasn’t smart enough to think of it.  Open your hearts to Clare as you did for me.  Continue to be the people you already are.  A people of grace and love.

And this I promise you.  You will find that you are blessed by your loving.  You will grow in new ways.  And you will find that God is present with you.

For all the mistakes I have made over the last four years, I ask your forgiveness.  For all your love, I give my deepest thanks.  I am a   better person for having been here and having been loved by you.  Thank you for making Amy, Nicholas, & Ryan part of the family.  We know you will do the same for Clare & John!
