In 1996, Rev. David O. Malloy was appointed as the District Superintendent of the Fayetteville District, North Carolina Conference, United Methodist Church. At the time of appointment, he was serving as the pastor of New Hope United Methodist Church in Rowland, NC. Rev. Malloy has also served pastorates at Fletcher's Chapel in Hoffman and St. Peter in Wagram. He has been involved in many areas of district and conference church life, including the Conference Commission on Evangelism, Board of Ordained Ministry, Conference Summer School, and District Committee on the Superintendency. A Vietnam War Veteran, he received his B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and M.Div. from the Duke Divinity School. He and his wife, Vevely, have three adult children. District superintendents are church elders assigned to supervise the ministries in a specific geographic area. They meet with the bishop as a cabinet. A major duty of the bishop and cabinet is the appointment of local church pastors. There are 12 districts in the North Carolina Conference which consists of 56 counties in eastern North Carolina.
