A BRIEF HISTORY
Lakeside Camp Meeting started in 1984 with a dream and a vision. Edie Martin, wife of Pastor Steve Martin, had suggested to her husband that they have an "old-fashioned" camp meeting to celebrate the bicentenniel of American Methodism. His reply was "We could never do that!" But on a frosty cold night in February, the Lord gave Pastor Steve a vision. God showed him a camp meeting on the shore of Back Lake, with many people gathering from all around New England. Pastor Steve replied, "Lord, if this is from you, You're going to have to convince the adminstrative council!" When the council met, the vote was unanimous and Lakeside Camp Meeting was born. The council wasn't sure if it would be a onetime event or something ongoing. After the first campmeeting they voted in faith "to continue to hold it until the Lord tells us otherwise."

The first year featured the music ministry of Leo Adkins, a woman from Alabama who played "the harp" (harmonica). Also on hand were Herb and Edi Hutchinson, who have appeared many times since, the Gencos, Ken Borchers, Dan Weaver and many others. Evangelists included Sherwood Treadwell, Dave Thompson, Charlie and Betty Davis, Bruce Lee and Steve Martin. The theme "Share The J. O. Y.." (Jesus, Others and You!) That first year the tent was set up over two borrowed flatbed truck trailers, with the front of the tent parallel to the shore.

The next year someone had a wonderful idea to turn the tent sideways, leaving both sides open to see the lake. Now we watch the ducks swim by, watch the children along the shore and wave to the boaters as they go by. Beginning in 1985 with "The Spirit Gives Life, " the themes have had to do with  "The Spirit" Over the years we have seen the Lord move in many incredible ways. People coming to know Jesus, baptisms in the Lake, many slain or (resting) in the Spirit, healings and deliverence! Oh what joy! Some who used to come have moved onto glory, others have moved away. Yet the joy continues.
"all things are possible with God!" " How long will it go on?.... until the Lord tells us otherwise." Until then we'll continue to "SHARE THE  J. O. Y. "

Come praise and worship the Lord with us!
