History of the Mount Tabor UMC

The Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church has a rich history in the Everett Springs Community of Floyd County, Georgia.

In 1837 settlers moved into Everett Springs and began establishing farms. In 1848 a group of Methodist believers established a small Methodist church on what was then the Isham home place. The first church building was a one-room log structure built slightly north of the current location. This building served the congregation for many years.

In 1884, the land was deeded to the Methodist Episcopal Church South by Mr. John Mills. The church property consisted of slightly more than one acre of land. Around the same time, the original church building was moved north and another larger one-room structure was erected. This building is the current facility used by the congregation. When the Methodist Church and the Methodist Episcopal Church South were reunited in 1912, Mt. Tabor became part of the Methodist Church .

In 1962, the current structure was bricked over and a Sunday school annex was added to the building. In later years another smaller area with bathrooms and a kitchen was enclosed behind the Sunday school area.

In 1992, a fellowship hall was added to the south of the original building joined by a covered breezeway. The land for the fellowship hall was donated by Weldon Touchstone and deeded to the United Methodist Church .

In 2003, the church began construction of a family life center located directly behind the fellowship hall. Again the land for this building was donated by Weldon Touchstone and deeded to the United Methodist Church . The building was completed in June 2004.

The current congregation consists of seventy-five believing, worshiping and serving disciples of Jesus Christ who are working to spread the message of Christ in our community and around the world.
