Understanding the challenges that parents with young children have, we have given importance to the need for childcare during the Sunday service.
We have two options for children during the worship service. One is a nursery for infants thru age 2 and the other is childcare for ages 3 thru 8. The nursery (birth thru age 2) will be available before the worship service starts in order to allow parents time to settle and drop off their children without having to leave the service. We have designated the preschool room on the right for this and it will be equipped with three portable cribs and a changing table.
Childcare (ages 3 thru 8) will be in the preschool room on the left. These kids will be dismissed after the Children's Sermon and the children will follow their childcare workers to their room. We are excited for the new growth of the younger population of our church and hope this will make the worship service more convenient and enjoyable for our families and children.
Our nursery and childcare rooms are staffed with volunteers who help on a rotating basis. If you would be willing to help a Sunday this would greatly reduce the number of times that any one individual would miss the worship service. Please contact Lynette Haaf for more information at 234-2329.
Our Choir sings weekly at Sunday Services under the direction of Deacon Erika K. R. Hirsch. The inspirational music chosen for the Choir is a mixture of modern, classical and traditional arrangements. For those interested in joining, the Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00.
Our Sunday School program is designed for all ages. For kids ages 3 through 5th grade we have an exciting program which teaches major Bible stories and concepts through kid-oriented designed activities. This hands-on interactive approach incorporates the Scriptures and our Christian beliefs through such things as cooking, science experiments, music, crafts, games and movies.
The Middle & High School aged teens have their own special program, which in addition to examining the scriptures, also approach current issues and subjects that they may be facing as they transition from children to young adults.
The adults (18 & older) have several programs to choose from on Sunday mornings. For those who wish to explore Christian values or have very limited Bible knowledge, there is a class led by our pastor Rev. David R. Piscatelli which meets in the Sitting Room.
Many Bible classes and discussion groups are scheduled during the year. The subjects, schedules and leaders vary according to the subjects and needs of the groups. For the current schedule contact the office or email us.
An informal group of adults meets monthly for fun and fellowship. The schedule and events are decided upon by the group and each month the event is different.
Some of the recent events were bowling, minature golf, camping, a progressive dinner, hayride, role playing mystery night, road rally, and a Christmas house party.
The Youth Fellowship is an active group of junior & senior high school students. They elect their own officers and plan their own events with the help of several adult advisors. Some of the activities during this past year have been camping, pool parties, hiking, bowling, talent show, roller skating and game nights.
In the Fall of 1996, we put a giant peaked roof over the original flatter roof.

Almost all the labor was done by members and friends of Faith UMC. We only had the use of the crane for three days, so everyone worked hard to get the trusses in place. We then worked for several weeks after that to lay down the plywood, roofing and siding. The project was so immense that some people in town later told us "We thought you were putting a second floor on the church."
In the Summer of 1997, we renovated the sanctuary. The floors were redone, the rug shampooed, the walls and ceiling were painted, the light fixtures and wiring were changed and the sound system was upgraded. In addition to all this, the pews were modified to widen the side aisles. In the summer of 1998 the final trim and
molding details were completed. In 2000 we contracted a paving company (this was a job for professionals) and had our driveways and parking lots repaved. In 2004 a large Methodist cross was installed on the building. The cross was designed and fabricated by Ed Doolittle.
In 2005 several Eagle Projects were completed at the church which included a handicapped ramp to the building, and a handicapped rest room. Troop 811 B.S.A., chartered to the church, built new storage cabinets behind the stage.
In 2006 the Church's Vestibule (main entrance) was remodeled and the playground was redesigned. Both these projects were done as Boy Scouts' Eagle Projects. The "Amazing Kids" preschool, who use our facilities on weekdays, made many improvements to several of our classrooms.
In 2007 many improvements and some remodeling were completed in the Narthex, Library, Sitting Room, hallways and the largest classroom.
In addition to the many recent improvements, several other improvements are being discussed and/or planned in the near future.
Faith Works started out as the name used on the crafts made by church members and sold at our craft fairs. It has been expanded in it's use to include more than just the men's and the women's craft fellowships.
On a larger scale, it has become the logo used by the volunteer workers who have worked on the recent church remodeling. It represents our congregations commitment to working together on projects.
On the spiritual level it also means that faith (believing in Christ Jesus) truly does work. That believing and also taking action upon that belief is an important spiritual principle for success.
In September of 1953 a small group formed "The Methodist Society of North Haven" and began holding worship services in the Community House on Sunday evenings. These services were led by the Rev. Robert Hamilton, Pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, New Haven. The Methodist Society, through the offices of the Rev. Barton Bovee, District Superintendent, petitioned the Community Committee of the New Haven Council of Churches for recognition as a Methodist Church in the District. The petition was denied. The New York Conference was then obliged to withdraw both encouragement and financial support. Rev. Hamilton was no longer authorized to associate with the society. In June of 1954, the Society voted to incorporate as "The Community Chapel"(Unaffiliated Methodists) and hired the Rev. Bernhard Olsen as Pastor.
In April of 1955, the Community Chapel again petitioned the Community Committee for recognition and this time the recognition was authorized. On May 25, the New York Conference chartered "Faith Methodist Church" as the first new Methodist congregation in the conference in fifty years.
In June of 1956 the Rev. Robert Hamilton officially became our pastor. Also during that month, land and a small bungalow was purchased. An addition was built consisting of three bedrooms and a large basement meeting room which was called "Fellowship Hall." The first church service in our building was held on Christmas Eve.
A building committee was formed in 1958 and in September 1959 the corner stone of Phase One of Faith Methodist Church was laid. In December, Bishop Buckley Newell, led a service of Consecration and Thanksgiving in our new sanctuary.
In 1964 the second phase of our church plant was added which consisted of a social hall, kitchen, and four classrooms. Shortly before it's completion Rev. Hamilton accepted a pastorate in Southington. Our new pastor was the Rev. John Carr. In November of that year, a tenth anniversary celebration was held and both Rev. Olsen and Rev. Hamilton returned to participate with Rev. Carr.
In June 1966, Rev. Carr became the resident Chaplain at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The Rev. Howard Grant was appointed as Pastor. He did much to increase our outreach to the community and in the Conference and remained our pastor until June 1970 when he became pastor of Glendale Methodist Church.
In 1970, Rev. Eugene Haaf became the new pastor. In 1978 Faith United Methodist Church celebrated it's 25th Anniversary. Various events and celebrations took place during the fall of that year.
In 1988 a new parsonage was erected at 75 Clintonville Road. Three years later, in June of 1991, Rev. Haaf retired after 21 years as pastor. Bishop C. Dale White appointed Rev. Richard Gallo as our sixth pastor at Annual Conference. In the summer of 1992, Rev. Gallo regrettably resigned because of family obligations in Florida. The church went through a long search process to find another pastor. In the interim period, Rev. Albert Miller came out of retirement to be our temporary part time pastor.
In the Summer of 1993, Rev. Kermit Morrison became the pastor of our church. He brought many years of experience and lots of enthusiastic energy to our church. Rev. Morrison served our church for five years. He retired as our full time pastor in 1998.
The Reverend Kent F. Jackson (Pastor Kent) was appointed in July 1998. In July 2001 he was appointed to Walden UMC in New York State.
Reverend Barbara Schaffer was appointed to Faith in July of 2001. In July of 2006 she was appointed to Torrington UMC in Connecticut.
Reverend David R. Piscatelli was appointed to Faith UMC in July of 2006.
