OUTREACH

Touching Hearts and Changing Lives

By definition the church is not a building, but a people living out their faith in love. We sponsor/host several outreach programs for the needs of the Hudson area and beyond.

* BOY SCOUTS

We are proud to sponsor and host Boy Scout troop #545, for special needs scouts. The troop motto is: “We may be slow, but watch us grow!” Our scout troop leads worship one Sunday a year and recently worked together to earn their “God and Church” badges. The boys meet in Covert Hall on Tuesday nights.

* CHILDREN'S HOME

Every Fifth Sunday during the year, we collect a special offering for the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, located in Enterprise, Florida. The Children's Home strives to create an atmosphere which enables children and families with special needs to experience God's love and care. They combine Christian influence with a healing, caring, therapeutic community.

* COMPUTER MINISTRY

Our computer lab is up and running!  The computer room is staffed on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00am to 1:00pm or by appointment.  Beginning September 14th, it will also be open on Monday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  We would like to staff it more often but need some volunteers for that to happen.  If you would like to help, see or call Errick Reveron at 727-237-7351.  If you would like to learn how to e-mail, word process or use the internet, just stop by.

* JOINING HANDS KIDS CAMP

Fresh Start Kids Camp is an week-long, all day summer camp for homeless and underprivileged children in western Pasco County. The camp is sponsored by an interdenominational coop of churches in the area. Using a Christian curriculum children participate in singing, crafts, recreation and other activities during the day. They also received two hot meals a day, as well as backpacks with supplies for school and new shoes and clothes. Our church has helped with gift cards for gasoline for bus transportation, conducted a “socks and undies” drive and supplied volunteers to help with fundraising, planning, food service, staffing the nursery, and working hands on with the children.

* GIDEONS INTERNATIONAL

Once a year we invite the Gideons to come and share with us about the work that they do and collect a special offering for them. Gideons provide Bibles to schools and universities, hotels, motels, hospitals, as well as our armed forces.

* GIRL SCOUTS

We are proud to sponsor and host two Girl Scout troops: one for Daisy Scouts (ages 4-5) and one for Brownie Scouts (ages 6-8). The girls meet together for fun and fellowship, take trips and work together on their badges.

* KARATE SCHOOL

We partner with Ingrams’ Professional Karate School of New Port Richey and serve as a satellite campus, offering karate classes for children (ages 3-12) and adults (ages 13 and up). Taught by Sensei Tony Previte, are offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings. In the summer months a week-long karate summer camp is offered for children between the ages of 3-12.

* MOON LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

Each fall we sponsor a school supply drive for our local elementary school – Moon Lake Elementary. We collect supply lists from the teachers at school and encourage members to bring in the needed supplies to help our teachers stock their classrooms.

* PANTRY BARREL

There is a collection basket in the narthex for food donations. We operate on referrals from the Department of Children and Family Services. Because demand for food is high, each household is limited to assistance one time in a calendar month.

* SECOND CHANCE THRIFT SHOP

Started in 2002, the Second Chance Thrift Shop is open every Thursday through Saturday, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Donations may also be dropped off during these hours. Our prices are low and our inventory regularly includes clothes for men, women and children as well as furniture, books, movies, jewelry, dishes and other household goods. Our inventory changes constantly, so make sure you check back frequently. The Thrift Shop is staffed solely by volunteers, who sort through all donations and clean and price items for sale.  All proceeds from sales go to the church mortgage.  (We are not currently handling any children's clothing or toys due to the recent problems with lead and other contaminants in articles made overseas).

* SHARE

SHARE stands for "Self-Help And Resource Exchange” and is a non-profit network of people helping themselves and others to save on food while doing good in their communities. Every month, SHARE offers food packages valued at $36 or more for only $18 to anyone willing to do any kind of volunteering for just 2 hours a month. There are special food packages available for purchase at Easter and Christmas. Our Host Site coordinator is Sue Peak. Sign up is the first Tuesday of every month at 10am and the second Saturday of every month at 10am. Delivery day is generally the last Saturday of the month at 8am. For more information you may contact the church office.
