MISSION

Encountering God, Becoming Devoted Disciples, Living Transformed Lives

Faith United Methodist Church exists as a Christian community designed to help people encounter God, become devoted disciples of Jesus Christ and live transformed lives as a result of their experiences.

VISION

We “Encounter God” through Worship and “Become Devoted Disciples” through various Discipleship activities, including Sunday school and Bible study. As a result of these experiences, we can no longer remain the same, but must respond by “Living Transformed Lives” through Ministry within the church and Evangelism and Outreach to our community and the world.

HISTORY

In 1975, scouts from the First United Methodist Church of New Port Richey and the First United Methodist Church of Hudson looked for a location to sponsor a new church along State Road 52 where housing developments were beginning to fill the area. In the fall of 1977, property was purchased at 12128 State Road 52 in Hudson for the new church. The Rev. Frederick Long was appointed as the first pastor in June of 1978 and the first church meeting took place on July 9, 1978 on State Road 52 at Tri County Office Needs. There were 23 people present that day. By the end of the month, the church had outgrown the office space, and moved services to the chapel at Bell Funeral Home. The church held services there until May 25, 1980. It was during this period that the church was named “Faith United Methodist Church.”  On July 22, 1979, ground was broken for the first building on the church’s property and the multipurpose building was completed in 1980. The multipurpose building housed the church’s worship space, kitchen, fellowship hall, offices and classrooms. The first service held in the new building was on May 24, 1980, with 272 people present. In the next six months, the church added two additional Sunday services and hired an assistant pastor, the Rev. William H. Covert. In 1983, Faith helped to launch Shady Hills United Methodist Church.

In the late 90’s, the kitchen space was doubled and construction on the current sanctuary building began. The church moved into the current sanctuary in 2000. The Sanctuary Building houses our worship space, church offices, as well as a conference room and choir room. The original building was renamed Covert Hall in 2002 in honor of Rev. Covert’s 20 years of service to the church and it currently functions as a fellowship space for dinners and classroom space. The two mobile buildings, with the addition of a large shed, now house the church’s Second Chance Thrift Shop. Rev. Covert officially retired as Assistant Pastor in 2004 and was granted Pastor Emeritus status. He passed away in December of 2007. Faith Church celebrated its 30th anniversary of ministry to the Hudson/New Port Richey community in the fall of 2008.
