A
Message From Pastor Tony
As
I write this article, Easter was only a little more than a week ago. On Easter Sunday, we handed out small
stones to those in attendance to remind us of the stone that was rolled
away from the tomb of Jesus. Think
about it, if the stone remained, sealing the tomb, the women who first
arrived at the tomb would have no way of knowing that the tomb was empty;
the disciples who followed would not have been able to enter to tomb and
see the empty grave clothes. The
world would be a different place if Jesus had remained sealed in the
tomb.
But
the stone was rolled away!
And
we are told in the Bible that God was the one who rolled it away.
Perhaps
all of us have things in our life that are like that stone which once
sealed the tomb of Jesus. Maybe we
have things that get in the way of us truly believing in the resurrection
of Jesus. Or perhaps we have things
that are a stumbling block to us preventing us from completely living each
day of our life as Jesus would have us live, living according to example
that Jesus gave us.
What
are the “stones” that prevent us living the abundant life that
Jesus came for us to have?
The
encouraging news is that God rolled away the huge stone that sealed
Jesus’ tomb.
The
promise is that God can also roll away and remove those things that keep us
being the beneficiaries of the abundant, eternal life that Jesus has
already offered to us.
All
we need to do to start the stone to roll is to ask; to pray to God and ask
for not just the insight to see these stones in our life for what they are,
but also ask for God to remove them from us.
A
new life waits.
In
these 50 days between Easter and Pentecost, let us carry the little
symbolic stones we received on Easter morning with us (or notice them in
the special places where we have set them,) to remind us to ask for
God’s help in our lives, and consider how those hindrances to God and
abundant life can be moved out of our way.
(Need a stone? Call the
church office for one!)
May
we journey together with God!
And May God Bless Us!
