The Habit of Meeting
Together
Pam
Williams
Hebrews 10:25 says,
“Do not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing.
Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since . . . the Day
of the Lord is coming nearer.”
John Wesley referred
to the habit of meeting together as “Christian conferencing”— gathering
regularly with other Christians for discussions, teaching,
accountability, and mutual support in our walk with Jesus. Wesley viewed
Christian conferencing as a means of experiencing God’s unmerited grace.
And anyone who has attended a Bible study, Sunday school class, or other
Christian study group would agree.
When we enter into a
relationship with God, He also calls us into relationship with other
Christians as part of a nurturing family. As Proverbs 27:17 points out,
“Iron sharpens iron”--we learn from one another.
At EUMC
opportunities to obey scripture and participate in Christian
conferencing abound. Within our various study groups we can follow what
Wesley encouraged the early Methodist societies to do:
1. Share prayer
requests and answers to prayer—including temptations, trials and
sorrows, as well as spiritual progress.
2. Study the
Scriptures together and hold one another accountable in following
them—in our attitudes, life-style, service and motives.
3. Sing hymns and
spiritual songs together
4. Enjoy meals with
each another.
5. Give testimonies
of what God is doing in our lives.
6. Encourage and
watch over one another as “soul friends.”
7. Uphold trust and
confidentiality, knowing that what is shared will stay within the
confines of this intimate, committed group.
Join a Bible study,
Sunday school class or men’s or women’s breakfast group! Discover how
warm and caring Christian conferencing can develop and deepen our
relationship with God and with others who love Him.

Looking for a Sunday school
class?
Interested in a more
in-depth study of the scriptures? Beginning in September we will be
offering a third adult Sunday school class. This will be a comprehensive
verse-by-verse, book-by-book study of the Bible. This class will
strengthen your understanding and appreciation of the Bible by looking
at the Scripture on three levels: What was the world like when this was
written? What does this passage mean? How does the Scripture relate to
my life today? For more information see Pam Williams or call the church
office.

Red Cross Food Pantry
In an effort to be
more friendly to our environment, we are no longer going to be
pre-bagging the food for distribution. Instead, we will be putting the
food items on the tables and placing them in the people’s boxes as they
pass through the line. Anyone who has helped with pre-bagging in the
past, will no longer need to come on the Thursday before the
distribution day. If you would like to help in another way, we can
always use extra hands on the Wednesday of food-pantry week, around
11:00 am, when our order comes in. Thank you to everyone for your
willingness to serve!

|
Would you like to help
others learn more about Jesus?
Our education
program is in need of a few teachers and helpers. We need an additional
teacher for the Young Adult class. We could also use some helpers,
especially in our Pre-K class. If you feel God nudging you in this
direction please see Pam Williams or call the church office.

OUTREACH
A BIG thanks to all
those volunteers that helped with the God Bless America Festival. We
appreciate Chelly Pepple chairing this event. We had a blast and the
children loved the lamb frames they made.
Do you have a winter
coat hanging in your closet you no longer wear? We are looking for
gently used winter coats to offer to Food Bank recipients this fall. All
sizes of coats for adults and children are being collected. Just drop
them off at the Parish House from now until October 1st. Thanks!
We’re planning a
drive to collect old/used cell phones that will provide phone calling
cards for our military personnel. Watch for details as we learn more
about this program.
We’re already
beginning to dream of ideas for next year on ways to reach the
unchurched in our area. How exciting is that?? Why not join us at our
next meeting on August 7th at 7:00 pm in the Parish House. See you
there!

Living Above Worry
and Stress
We are busy people
with responsibilities at work, home, church, school, and community. We
care for the needs of our parents, our husbands, our children, our
siblings, our employers, our closest friends. Most days, it is more than
we can handle. Our hearts are overwhelmed, and we are stressed and
worried.
But, fear not! “What
then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against
us?” (Rom. 8:3) God is with us! Through His Word and the work of the
Holy Spirit in us, we will persevere and . . . Live Above Worry And
Stress!

I Know Whom I Have
Believed: Do you trust God? Do you trust Him with everything in your
life? God speaks to us clearly. He means what He says. He imparts His
word and keeps it. We can count on that. Saturday, August 9, 8:00 a.m.,
Parish House.
A Promise Is A
Promise: One of the best ways to get to know God is to seek Him out
through His Word. He has made many promises to you, and everything He
has promised will come to be. Saturday, September 13, 8:00 a.m., Parish
House.

Words really can’t express how much I
have appreciated your cookies, toys - and much more - your prayers
during the past year. There are days when I think that is all that
enables us to make it through those crazy days when nothing seems to
go right. Thank you all so much for your time, effort, and prayers.

One the best memories I have of this
year is remembering the group who has held me up in prayer, baked me
delicious treats, & supported my work. I am truly grateful. Thank
you. Genie Kline
Thank you to all of the wonderful cookie
bakers for all the delicious cookies for PPFS. What a great out
reach. Thanks, too, for all those who prayed throughout the year for
students and employees in EASD. Thanks again! Roxanne
Thank you to the Everett United
Methodist Church, The Memorial Day weekend hospitality table at the
Gateway Travel Plaza was a tremendous day of sharing the gospel in
word and deed! Christian mission at the cross roads has taken a very
tangible expression through the baked goods, Christian literature,
Bibles and so much more. Most of all, people see and experience the
love of God in Christ through smiling faces and warm fellowship! God
bless you for helping to “re-present” Christ in this unique highway
setting, on a day when Breezewood receives huge numbers of holiday
travelers. A special thank you to Ginny for her excellent
organizational skills, and to Carol, Steve, Sue, Ivadene, Roxanne,
Carol, Missy, Tom, Veryl, Beulah, Pastor Dick and Pam for their
enthusiastic presence!!! God is so good. Peace, Bruce Maxwell,
