"Together We Make A Difference"
Miracles happen every day. We at Emmanuel United Methodist Church,
Beltsville, Maryland know that God's miracles are everywhere. We take
time to witness these miracles and thank God for His presence in our lives.
| An email from a former member:
When I was young, the church moved from its Prince Georges
Avenue location to Cedar Lane. During this time much of the building
and grounds maintenance was performed by the young adult group and their
able-bodied children. My father went so far as to be responsibile for
the purchase of the lawn mowers, riding and the like. As was my responsibility
at home, and being an "experienced professional", it seemed fitting to Pop
that my services could be of benefit to the church...and I loved every minute
of it.
One day I arrived early for the lawn maintenance "gathering".
I decided to begin before others arrived; fortunately I wasn't alone.
While cutting the front of the property, I mistakenly backed the riding mower
over the concrete culvert and was thrown off and down on the rocks at the
bottom. This being quite a fall in those days, the first miracle was
that I wasn't seriously injured. More miraculous was the fact that
the mower had not fallen. Lying on my back, I looked up and saw the
rear wheels of the mower hanging over the edge of the culvert above me.
With the engine still running, the mower's frame was wedged on top of the
culvert. I quickly got up and freed the mower. Being a young
man, I was, of course, more concerned as to whether anyone had witnessed
my mistake than I was about my injuries. I completed the chores after
a quick wash with the hose. I only related the incident to my dad later,
when he inquired about the cuts and scrapes. His response of, "next
time, you'll know better," was taken as it was intended. It wasn't
until later, at home, did he reveal a greater concern and amazement.
After I had left, he, with assistance, had attempted to recreate
the event with the mower lodging itself on top of the culvert. During
each of their attempts, the mower would have fallen into the culvert if it
had not been restrained by them......
My most fond memories of the church are my friends there,
and the times spent with everyone. Miracles have been occurring at
this church since its beginning. I pray they continue for you always.

This picture was taken by a lady returning on a cruise this past summer
(July 28, 2001). It is a sunrise over lower Manhattan. SHE Writes:
"As I watched the beautiful skyline of New York City float past me I noticed
the sun was about to line up just behind the twin towers. I was lucky enough
to snap the picture at exactly the right moment. If you look at the sun rays
it is almost prophetic...a little spooky."

I truly believe this was a miracle:
I was carrying my hearing aid that
needed repairing to church in a small gray cotton 3"X 4" purse
to give to Kathy Mellott one Sunday. It never got to church; when I
realized it was missing I searched my car, several rooms up at church, but
to no avail. I ordered a replacement and was told if I happened to
find my little purse before such and such a date, she would return the new
one I ordered. I had had to new one about a week when, as I was driving into
my driveway one evening, I reached over to unhook my seat belt when, lo and
behold, there between the two seats, up near shoulder level, was my little
gray purse that held my lost hearing aid.
Praise the Lord; I know He pushed
that little purse out from the seat so I could see it! I'm very thankful.

Submitted to Pastor Davis:
A friend had given me a box of fabric. In it was a very bright
print on a black background. My grand-daughter had asked me to make
her a skirt. After cutting it out, I took it down to my sewing machine-threaded
in white thread. Usually I can cut off the white thread above the needle,
with a long tail. Then thread the new (black) thread all the way to
the needle. Then I tie a square knot and pull the "white" thread through.
The knot goes through. But this time, the thread broke and now I must
thread the needle. I tried for a half an hour. Magnifying glass,
flashlight, my husband's vision magnifier, covering the shiny sole plate,
putting a different color card under the needle, but no luck! I was
desperate!
Then I remembered my morning meditation "If you pray for something, be specific.
No wishy-washy stuff. So I said, "Lord, I just can't do this by myself".
I put the thread beside the needle and it went right through the eye.
This happened not once, but twice! I was now able to sew my grand-daughter
the skirt. |
