July 13, 2006 -- To help foster spiritual growth and health in the broader community, not just for its members, Englewood United Methodist Church has for some time provided on its website links to the Biblical Scripture texts for the upcoming Sunday. This Scripture forms the core of Sunday worship, and is in this way available to all in advance for reading, study and reflection.
Englewood UMC has just expanded this spiritual resource to include the Scriptures for each Sunday throughout the year. This extended Scriptural resource consists of a listing by date of each Sunday of the Christian Year (which begins with the First Sunday of Advent -- usually the first Sunday in December). For each Sunday, there is a link to the text of the Scriptures for that Sunday, and the names of the persons helping to lead worship by reading that day.
Presently the links to Scripture texts are available for each Sunday from June 11, 2006 through the end of the current Christian Year on November 26, 2006. The names of readers are listed from July 9, 2006 through September 17, 2006. Reader names will be provided for later Sundays when available, and the Scripture links for the new Christian Year starting December 3, 2006 are expected to be available online in approximately four weeks.
This new resource from Englewood United Methodist Church is a quick way to answer questions about Scriptures for past or future weeks even when the church office is closed. It also makes possible study and prayer in concert with Christians around the world focused on the same Scriptures week by week.
