Greetings, and Welcome Indeed!
About Our Local Congregation
Englewood United Methodist Church was founded in 1887 as part of what was then the United Brethren Church. In 1946 the United Brethren Church and the Evangelical Association merged to form the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Thereafter in 1968, the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church merged to form The United Methodist Church. Through all these changes, Englewood United Methodist Church has been a steady and integral part of the growing Englewood community. Please visit our history page for more details about how we came to be.

Clergy CornerIn addition to Rev. Ruth Solo, our senior pastor, and Rev. George Sidwell, our pastor emeritus, we are fortunate to have Rev. Marjorie Thompson and Rev. David Wiechel as part of our congregation. They serve Englewood United Methodist Church in particular ministries, and as assigned from time to time. Rev. Solo, our other clergy, and sometimes other persons publish letters and commentaries for the benefit of our church family, in various forums such as in our monthly newsletters. To see recent letters and commentaries, please click here.
About United MethodistsThe United Methodist Church was formed in 1968 by the merger of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Methodist Church. The web site of The United Methodist Church includes a detailed history page.
Our BeliefsUnited Methodists do not have a series of set beliefs -- like the Roman Catholic catechism or the Lutheran Augsburg Confessions -- that all must believe as a condition of membership. John Wesley, a principal founder of Methodism, said that (regarding belief) the mark of a Methodist was nothing more or less than the mark of a Christian. In other words, United Methodists do not differ from basic Christian teaching and practice, although we do have our distinct emphases. The web site of The United Methodist Church includes a page that references official United Methodist statements of belief and attitude as set forth in the Book of Discipline. We are also constructing a page within this website that will outline a few of the major emphases of belief that are distinctive of the Wesleyan tradition and of The United Methodist Church.
