Spiritual GrowthUnlike physical growth, spiritual growth doesn't just happen. Spiritual growth requires real work, in particular the regular and intentional practice of spiritual disciplines including: public or corporate worship, prayer, communion, study and education, fellowship, and fasting and other means of denying immediate self-gratification. The regular practice of daily devotions (in the form of reading and reflection upon a particular passage of Scripture and a short commentary on that passage, coupled with meditation and prayer) is a way to grow through multiple spiritual disciplines, and to encounter the God's immediate presence in your life. The Upper Room publishes pamphlets containing daily devotions for your spiritual care, and makes these devotions and other spiritual resources available on its web site. In addition, The United Methodist Church also makes a variety of spiritual resources available on the its web site, including a Message that changes twice monthly, and a current biographical profile.
