Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an annual event in over 4,000 communities worldwide… including Henderson and Transylvania Counties. More than 2 million people worldwide take part in this overnight event. In addition to honoring cancer survivors and remembering those who have succumbed to cancer, Relay For Life raises much-needed funds for American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy and patient services. SINCE 2003, ETOWAH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH HAS FIELDED A TEAM FOR THE HENDERSON COUNTY RELAY FOR LIFE IN JUNE. There are a number of opportunities for you to take part in this important outreach ministry of our church:

Ø As a RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM MEMBER, you seek out and collect donations during April and May supporting the ACS fight against cancer. Then you take a turn as we alternate walking, jogging and/or running laps throughout the evening of the June event. You also celebrate at the Relay event with hundreds of volunteers from the area as we welcome visitors to the Etowah UMC tent, enjoy the entertainment and refreshments, and take part in raffles/games/dancing etc.
Ø As a CANCER SURVIVOR, you hold a special place in our hearts and in the Relay for Life celebration. You are invited to be our guest at the Survivor’s Dinner… take part in the Survivor Victory Lap that opens the Relay event… and may choose to also be a Team Member.

Both Team members and Survivors receive commemorative T-shirts.

Watch for the announcement at church in February/March that this year’s Team is being formed.

Point of contact for Relay for Life is Dick Ranges.
