Structure of our Building Committee

Our Building Committee is divided into three principal sub-committees, each with their own specific responsibilities and all cooperating to plan for a successful building program. All three of these groups are using the results of the Long Range Planning Committee’s work and the recent Feasibility Study as a foundation in going forward with their work. Here is how they are currently organized:

THE PROGRAM & DESIGN SUB-COMMITTEE has the job of finalizing our church’s current and future Program Needs (that is, what ministries we want to develop and strengthen in order to best fulfill our Church Mission and God’s hopes for Etowah UMC)… and then determining exactly what renovations and new buildings are needed to meet those Program Needs. The Yurko building plans you saw last January are a key resource in this work. If the resulting detailed architectural plans, specifications, financial plans and cost estimates are approved by our congregation at a later meeting, this sub-committee will also oversee all approved construction with our architects.

THE FINANCE SUB-COMMITTEE has the job of developing a comprehensive Financial Plan for the renovations and new buildings needed. They will be determining—in cooperation with Program & Design… priorities and phasing for a building project, based on the financial resources our congregation can generate and any other feasible financing. If our congregation approves the resulting architectural plans, financial plans and cost estimates, this sub-committee will also work closely with Wiltshire & Company to plan and execute a capital funds drive. If construction goes forward, they will manage the receipt of funds and payments while maintaining close ties to our church Finance Committee concerning any impact capital fund donations may be having on church budget receipts.

THE PROMOTION SUB-COMMITTEE has the job of keeping the congregation and the community informed about
our building program and progress. They are responsible for getting key information, milestones, targets and decisions in front of our congregation, and stimulating continued interest and enthusiasm at every stage of the building program. This group will solicit congregation comments and questions, and get answers back to you.
